Unique Foods Ltd. was established in the year 1979 with the sole purpose of manufacturing some Indian delicacies, but accidentally, the founders were led to develop a line which made them pioneers of a special type of FOOD condiments and made them first in North America to produce on a commercial scale.

While trying to develop some ready to eat Indian snacks, it struck them that in Indian cookery and also in other Asian and European cooking, some prepared food condiments were not available in Grocery stores... and that is how / why it struck them to think of condiments like Garlic paste and Ginger paste.

They started to develop Garlic and Ginger Pastes (puree) and perfected stable products after overcoming some hardships and problems. Fortunately, the products were well received by consumers especially working women and girls. Friendly grocers were very helpful in pushing the products to the consumers. The success of GARLIC AND GINGER pastes, encouraged the founders to develop more varieties.

Now on to CHUTNEYS. And thus the experimenting began and the first CHUTNEY that came out was Coriander (cilantro). Which was and still is a SUCCESS, with tremendous reviews from LOCAL and ABROAD. Again this did not stop them from their task of giving to the world their great love for Gourmet Delight Paste and Chutneys.

As they became more and more proficient in making these products, they started working simultaneously on other Chutney products such as Mint, Green Chilies, Red Hot Pepper, Tamarind, etc. Having successfully developed these, the marketing again went off with a blast... success was again achieved in this venture as well as with the rest of the products. By now the premises was becoming small so they moved to larger premises. And as word spread across North America, the orders started coming in. First from New York city and then from the rest of the country as well.

Though variety of Pickles were always imported from India and Pakistan, there was a gap for a different taste - LOCAL TASTE', which would have fewer spices and less oil and so on. Fresh carrots were readily available in Ontario which was experimenting with pickling. With the proper spices and other ingredients out came the first PICKLED CARROTS, which incidentally met the public's applause and is still in heavy demand. This encouraged the producers to manufacture other varieties, i. e. Mango, Lemon, Green Chilli, Mixed Vegetable Pickles to compliment the list of Pickles.

Having created the above they started experimenting with other different chutneys and came up with a new blend called Tropical delight... a new delicious sweet & sour sauce mixed with fruits and nuts... and instant Curry Powder.

With another successful product, they started making other chutneys and sauces to compliment the list and all with success.

In 1997 they sold their business along with all their know how & recipes to a new family who has a great interest in Indian food and condiments. The new owners... (who had no knowledge of this FOOD except how to devour it all). In turn after learning the ropes they started to experiment and came back with 3 new sauces, with as much success as the great success of their predecessors. They are now currently experimenting with new varieties and will keep you updated on these new products as they launch them. With your help these products will be a success.
