Comments from participants at a recent two-day investigation training program conducted by Alan Shefman, President of The Edge
The content was excellent and the facilitator was fabulous. It was participatory and a well organized session. What I would suggest most is that this training has paramount importance for supervisors than anyone else. They are the frontline people who encounter such complaints. Any action or inaction on their part will affect our mutual respect policy. If we have the budget, I recommend this training for all supervisors in our agency.
I do feel it was a great overview. A lot of the information we are applying to other procedures where we use investigations. I thought the facilitator was great and demonstrated in depth knowledge. I feel further time in working through the investigation process and questioning would be helpful as a follow up. Also the case examples were great and I could see one of my work sites as fitting the profiles. More in depth education into the code and some of the case law issues would be a great next step. I feel we just scratched the surface, as overwhelming as it was! This definitely needs to be rolled out to managers/ supervisors [need awareness of code, our responsibilities and to be mindful of legal issues/impacts]. I really got a lot out of the training and look forward to more!!
The training was very helpful. I thought the facilitator was very good at explaining and clarifying the issues around harassment/discrimination/bullying as well as conducting investigations. I would have liked to spend more time on the investigation process, but that was not possible with the amount of material we had to go through in 2 days. Overall.... excellent 2 days of training!
