Saskatchewan Minerals

Saskatchewan Minerals

Chaplin, SK

Company Overview

Saskatchewan Minerals, a division of Goldcorp Inc., is one of the largest producers of anhydrous sodium sulphate in both Canada and the USA, and our production capability of 285, 000 tons per year ranks among the world's leading producers.

Saskatchewan Minerals started production from its Chaplin plant in 1948 as a Crown Corporation of the Province of Saskatchewan. At present, production capacity for sodium sulphate exists at Chaplin Lake and Ingebrigt Lake; however, the Ingebrigt facility is presently on standby. Both properties are located in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Saskatchewan Minerals has substantial reserves, sufficient for many years of production at current levels.

Sodium sulphate is sold for use in powdered laundry deteregents, glass making, textiles, modified corn starches, carpet deodorants, Kraft pulp mills and mineral feeds for livestock. Saskatchewan Minerals is a reliable long term supplier that consistently produces high quality sodium sulphate. A minimum purity standard of 99% detergent quality product is maintained.

Presently, SM markets sodium sulphate in Canada and the USA. Overseas exports ( Latin America and the Pacific Rim countries) have in the past been shipped in bulk by covered rail cars through the Port of Longview, WA, USA. Minimum shipment size is 6, 000MT.

Saskatchewan Minerals is located near the centre of North America. The head office and the Chaplin plant are adjacent to the main line of the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Trans-Canada highway.

Saskatchewan Minerals is the only sodium sulphate producer in North America who can ship daily on three major railways. In addition to the Canadian Pacific Railway, rail transfer sites have been established on the Canadian National Railway and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. Trucks run daily between Chaplin and these facilities where sodium sulphate is trans-loaded into rail cars. This ability to ship via alternate railways allows for improved transit times and competitive advantages for our customers.

Saskatchewan Minerals uses trans-loading facilities (rail to truck) located in strategic areas in the USA which allow SM to offer same day or next day deliveries to support customer 'just in time' inventories. Various bag sizes from 50 lb bags to tote bags (2000 lb supersacks) are available at our external transload facilities located at various locations through out Canada and the USA.

Sales, marketing, logistics, and customer service are handled by a dedicated marketing department that has a combined experience of 50 years in the sodium sulphate business. Customers who purchase from Saskatchewan Minerals can be assured that they are working with a term of sodium sulphate experts who know how to provide the service needed in today's competitive marketplace.

In 2008, Saskatchewan Minerals will observe 60 years in the sodium sulphate business. We have grown from a small saltcake plant at Chaplin to one of the world's largest producers of detergent grade sodium sulphate thanks to the continued loyalty of our customers.
