Fenco MacLaren is an expert marine-oriented business unit of the SNC-Lavalin Group. Fenco MacLaren was formed to manage the Maritime Coastal Defence Vessel (MCDV) Project. This $650 million project provided the federal government with twelve vessels, seven highly complex operational payloads and several small shore-based facilities. Fenco MacLaren provided the vessels on time within budget and to specification.
In addition, Fenco MacLaren has two contracts with the Canadian Navy to provide total on-going support to the twelve MCDVs and two offshore supply type vessels. The support contracts include project management, engineering design services, technical supervision for mechanical / electrical / electronic / combat systems work, procurement, and contracting services for sub-contracts to service providers.
These total support contracts are run by a small group of professional engineers, managers, support staff, and technicians with operational experience working out of offices in Halifax, Ottawa and Victoria.
The operation is fully networked, has current office tools and is working toward a paperless office. Fenco MacLaren sub-contracts approximately $8 million of work per year using an integrated procurement, cost/schedule control database. The database is linked to a listing of approximately 1300 service providers, the majority of whom are based locally. Fenco MacLaren maintains warehouses on the waterfront on both Coasts. We have experience in supporting our client's fleet on two of North America's sea coasts, into the Caribbean and in Europe. We take the responsibility to deliver projects and manage services on time and within budget.
In the past fiscal year (1 Apr. 98 - 31 Mar 99), Fenco MacLaren exceeded vessel availability targets by 10% while using only 65% of allocated budgets.
