There are various types of composite panels that are produced by Railtech Ltd. for both the railway and archi- tectural industries. Panels manufactured for the mass transit industry are often constructed with a plywood core covered with either stainless steel or aluminum. This particular panel construction is best suited for passenger car or subway car flooring. An appropriate finish would then be placed over the plymetal floor. Plywood core panels can also be used in a car's interior finish by replacing either the aluminum or stain- less steel with melamine to create the desired finish. Through the company's research and development program, the company created Aluminall. Aluminall is a honeycomb panel which is incorporated into a building's exterior curtain wall system. The product can be used for decorative purposes in any building interiors as well. Composite panels can be constructed to just about any desired thickness or size.
In the Railway industry, Railtech has manufactured many products for heating of passenger cars and heating systems for boxcars. As the winters in Canada are fairly severe, most goods such as fruits and vegetables have to be heated during transpor- tation. Therefore the railways use heated/insulated boxcars for the movement of these products. Electro-mechanical bell ringers are also manufactured. Every locomotive in North America has a bell which rings continually when it is moving slowly or is in reverse. Bells normally are air operated but due to dirt and water in the oil, the bells are often unreliable. This problem is avoided with Railtech's bell as it is electrically operated. Skyfold is our latest creation. It is a unique, vertically folding acoustical partition that nearly stores in the ceiling when not in use. In the down position, Skyfold is a two sided, hard, rigid wall with an STC rating of 48. Unlike most operable walls, Skyfold is fully automatic and does not require manual operation. Changes in the room or hall configuration can be achieved very rapidly with a simple turn of a key.
The company also manufactures waste treatment systems for the rail industry. From the recirculating locomotive toilet to the more elaborate waste treatment system found in Canada's passenger rail cars, a variety of models are offered to accom- modate our customer's requirements.
