Chapters, Canadas largest book retailer, was looking for a cost-effective solution that would allow them to lower communications costs. They already used an IP network that offered a lower rate than the existing Datapac network.
Precidias POS positioned product - the Ether3201 met the exacting standards expected by Chapters. The initial field trials held during the busy holiday season proved the solution was not only cost-effective, but simple to install and easy to maintain. In January 2001, Chapters announced the installation of Precidias devices in all 77 of their flagship stores.
'Precidia's solution has allowed Chapters to realize substantial cost savings, ' said Tony D'Alessandro, Director of Systems Development, Chapters Inc. 'By bringing our transactions onto one IP network, we have eliminated the need for a separate data line. The solution is transparent to our existing network, and not only performed smoothly in the first months after installation, but continued to operate flawlessly in the peak retail months of November and December.'

The Cypher ASIC, Precidias embedded internet technology, is a low cost, completely integrated System-on-a-Chip (SoC) solution which allows customers to instantly network enable their existing products without requiring a detailed knowledge of the IP stack. Cypher removes network complexity by designing the IP stack into hardware, rather than software, in a single chip solution. Designed primarily for thin server applications in the internet appliance market, the Cypher converts incoming data streams into IP packets which can then be transmitted over an Ethernet or PPP interface.
The Ether3201 a simple, low cost dedicated replacement to an X.25 based network installation. Leveraging the bi- directional features of the TCP/IP protocol, Precidia's Ether3201 provides substantial savings to transaction processors and merchants by dramatically reducing maintenance and routing costs. The Ether3201 also offers a full range of transaction management tools never before possible.
The Ether3201 is designed to easily migrate financial transaction data from an X.25 based infrastructure to an IP network via Ethernet, while maintaining the merchant's investment in legacy equipment. It is a completely transparent, scalable solution for merchants who require a cost-effective alternative to their existing X.25 based connection.
The Ether422 is a network enabling device which can connect any number of RS422 legacy serial devices to IP networks. The Ether422 IP converter seamlessly migrates outdated networks over to IP, facilitates upgrade of legacy equipment, and consolidates stand-alone terminals.
Responding to simple configuration commands, the Ether422 IP converter swiftly incorporates any number of incremental serial devices onto your network. It provides access to multiple components from a single PC, and has the capabilitiy to tunnel a connection through an entire network. The Ether422 operates within LAN or WAN environments using TCP/IP.
The Ether422 is ideal for manufacturing, remote monitoring, security and medical applications.
The Ether485 is a network enabling device which can connect any number of RS485 legacy serial devices to IP networks. The Ether485 IP converter seamlessly migrates outdated networks over to IP, facilitates upgrade of legacy equipment, and consolidates stand-alone terminals.
