Company Overview

PhotoCAD Inc. incorporated in July of 1990 as a supplier of computer aided design/drafting (CAD), electronic engineering and electronic product design services. Utilizing sophisticated CAD software tools PhotoCAD provides design/drafting services for complex printed circuit boards, mechanical manufacturing documentation and turn key electronic product engineering of custom test equipment, instrumentation and industrial controls. PhotoCAD supports this activity with on parts procurement, electro-mechanical assembly and product testing.

Over the years we have developed an extensive customer base - supplying a high quality, professional product, on time and within customer budgets. PhotoCAD services customers in the regions of Ottawa, Kingston, Montreal, Toronto and a number of US government agencies. Our customers include Nortel, JDS Uniphase, Canada Post Corporation, Department of National Defence, Cogency Semiconductor, NASA and Toromont Industries to name a few; all of whom recognize PhotoCAD as a valued service provider for their electronic design and manufacturing needs.

PhotoCAD has won a variety of contracts with for example Tyco Electronics, Mechron Power Systems, Routes AtroEngineering, NavCANADA, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, U. S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, Canadian Security Etablishment and the Canadian government. Staffing levels were adjusted to acommodate for the increase in production and to better position PhotoCAD for future growth.

Technology Profile:

Technology Capabilities Our capabilities encompass all phases of electronic product design and manufacture. We utilize PC based CAD tools in the design of electronic and mechanical products and subassemblies. From concept to finished product, in prototype or production quantities, expertise can be provided at any stage during the manufacturing process. PhotoCAD offers manufacturing knowledge in electronic design, PCB and mechanical packaging, automated manufacture, procurement, assembly, test and configuration. Our in-depth experience enables us to provide a seamless manufacturing solution to our customers.

Electronic Design PhotoCAD provides analog, digital, RF, power supply and firmware design in support of our customers products and systems. We have additional expertise in the area of reverse engineering of obsolete and EOL products for the maintenance and repair sector.

Electrical CAD Packaging Our in-house design team provides PCB CAD packaging expertise using OrCAD design tools. We specialize in the layout of complex rigid and flexible printed circuit boards. Consideration is given to manufacturability of all designs as they progress through the layout phase maximizing yields in manufacturing and reducing costs. Automated assembly process decisions are made at this stage. Process hooks are implemented into the design ensuring the finished PCB will be compatible with optical recognition placement and assembly machines. Thermal characteristics, physical limitations and other considerations also take place ensuring the product packaging is done correctly.

Mechanical CAD Packaging PhotoCAD provides mechanical design services ranging from sheet metal piece part to more complex machined part design. We offer product packaging knowledge for EIA and VME racks and enclosures and design expertise to meet custom enclosure, mechanical piece part and subassembly requirements. We utilize AutoCAD and Solidworks for our mechanical design and drafting CAD tools.

Documentation Manufacturing documentation is provided in support of printed circuit board fabrication, PCB assembly, sheet metal fabrication, moulding, machining, wire/ cable fabrication, electro/ mechanical assembly and parts procurement. Formal manufacturing drawings are produced to facilitate accurate exchange of information between design, purchasing and manufacture thus minimizing error, cost and product development cycles.

Procurement PhotoCAD maintains supplier relationships with key subcontract manufactures and vendors in the necessary disciplines required to supply our customers with turnkey service. Our experience ensures timely sourcing and cost effective procurement of printed circuit boards, flexible circuits, electronic components, machined/ fabricated piece parts, wire/ cable sub assemblies, printed circuit and electro/ mechanical assembly services.

Electro/Mechanical Assembly Printed Circuit Board assembly can be automated or manual depending on the component technology used, the volume to be manufactured and the desired delivery time. After assembly has been completed, products are brought in-house for final assembly, electrical test, configuration and quality verification prior to delivery to the customer or their agents. Wether products contain sophisticated, leading edge surface mount components or traditional through-hole devices, PhotoCAD has the experience and flexibility to build one piece or thousands.

Manufacture PhotoCAD provides electronic product manufacturing services ranging from small volume prototype production to mid-volume production. We specialize in providing our customers with a single source solution for all services required to build their products. Our services, performed in-house or through qualified subcontractors include electro/ mechanical assembly, final assembly, product configuration, electrical test, calibration, product inspection, packaging and destination routing.
