Nexia manufactures these novel and rare recombinant proteins using transgenic dairy animals. Our platform technology is the BELE (Breed Early, Lactate Early) goat which features an ideal blend of unprecedented speed (8 months from DNA to rprotein in milk) and modest cost. In 1999, Nexia produced the worlds first transgenic goats carrying a spider silk gene. Nexia is currently in the manufacturing scale-up phase of producing BioSteel performance fibers for medical device industrial applications. BioSteel proteins have been successfully produced in the milk of transgenic goats.
