Since 1966, the Office of Professional Development (OPD), Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University has been a recognized leader in the management, design, development, evaluation and delivery of accredited CME to serve the information needs of health professionals working in rural/remote areas. The OPD latest Project is the development of MDcme. ca. This Web portal is the product of The Electronic Rural Medicine Strategy (TERMS) implemented in early 2001. Its purpose is to research, design, develop, deliver and evaluate online continuing medical education (CME) programs along with relevant training tools and resources to address the professional development needs of rural and remote physicians across Canada. The project has received close to $2 million (CAD) in public and private funding since its launch in January 2002 for growth and sustainability. Partners in the project include thirteen Canadian medical schools, Health Canada, Canadian Federation of Municipalities, Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Health, Pfizer Canada, Merck Frosst, Bluedrop Performance Learning, and many others.
