ODIM Spectrum Ltd.

ODIM Spectrum Ltd.

Peterborough, ON

Company Overview

The company originated from Spectrum Engineering, a Canadian owned firm that was established in 1971. In 1983 the 'Ocean Systems Group' was formed within Spectrum, initially to provide engineering support to the Canadian Navy's towed sonar systems. From this modest beginning Ocean Systems grew rapidly in the '90s, expanding its capabilities to develop a number of unique product solutions for an impressive array of international clients.

In 1997 a new chapter began when Odim Holding A. s of Ulstenivik, Norway, acquired the Ocean Systems Group. Odim is a multi-national organization involved in products and systems for oil exploration and production, fish processing, metal fabrication and hydraulics. Odim A. s is the leading winch system supplier to the seismic exploration market.

Together, Spectrum and Odim's products are notably complementary, and the two combine to offer 'end-to-end' cable handling and towed system solutions. This total capability encompasses a range of winch systems, tow points, tow blocks, faired cables, towed vanes and sonar bodies, and other marine equipment and services.

Approximately 75% of Spectrum's staff are comprised of professional engineers, designers and technologists, with practical experience in mechanical, hydrodynamic, hydraulic and electrical disciplines. Spectrum enjoys a reputation for arriving at fast, creative and low-cost solutions to many challenging requirements. Facilities include a production facility and a main engineering / administrative office; both located in Peterborough, Ontario. This office is also responsible for providing engineering and design services to Odim USA (Houston, TX).

Technology Profile:

Spectrum's engineering specialists have broad backgrounds in the computer-aided design, structural analysis, simulation, prototype development, assembly and test of unique and complex mechanical systems. Our project management expertise includes large, multi-year projects, and we are proud of our record in meeting urgent delivery requirements.

Our engineers and designers utilize the latest analysis, design, and modelling tools that enable us to specialize in customized design/build projects that demand the application of value engineering principles while minimizing technical risk. Equipment that must operate on open decks of ocean vessels must be designed to withstand an extremely harsh operating environments. Our design philosophy therefore focuses on such critical factors as corrosion, weight, reliability and safety. Our engineers and designers are integrally involved in a subcontractor management role to ensure specifications and quality requirements are adhered to throughout the acquisition and fabrication process. Production staff then focuses on final assembly and acceptance test in Spectrum's purpose-built manufacturing facility.

An experienced technical support network with MIL-SPEC or commercial documentation capabilities is in place, as well as field service and spares provisioning.
