At the Nova Scotia Community College, tomorrow is just as important as today. Training programs offered by NSCC are relevant, practical, hands-on and designed to prepare graduates to be able to compete for and secure the jobs that are and will be available in Nova Scotia. The College works closely with business, industry, community development groups, and government agencies to maintain relevant curriculum and appropriate mix of programs to address the labour market needs of the province.
NSCC is the second largest English post-secondary institution in the province, with 8, 400 full-time and 13, 000 part-time students.
Through a network of 14 campuses and 5 satellite sites across the province, the College offers more than 110 full-time programs in areas such as applied arts and communications, business, computer sciences, industrial trades and technologies, health and human services, and natural sciences. Each College graduate is required to complete a portfolio prior to convocation that will serve them in their life-long pursuit of knowledge and skills.
Customized training opportunities are available at each campus. Both general and industry-specific programs are available. Evening and extension courses provide students with the opportunity to pursue skills, personal and professional development at times that fit their schedules.
Each faculty member must have prior industry experience and therefore brings a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience to the classroom. Their experience, gained in the professions, business, industry and other fields, helps to ensure the relevancy of programs and the success of graduates.
NSCC's Akerley Campus offers a full range of technical and trades programs supporting the oil and gas industry; the Strait Area Campus, Nautical Institute offers marine navigation and safety programs and Annapolis Valley Campus', Centre of Geographic Sciences is well known for its research and training in geographic sciences.
