The on-vehicle computer weighs, identifies, and time-stamps each pickup and sends this information via wireless (radio) digital communications to a host computer. The host computer provides digital dispatch of routes, customer profitability, route profitability and productivity and other valuable management reports. Typical return on investment is 6-9 months for this system.
User pay by weight systems are widely considered to be the fairest and most powerful tool available to promote recycling, reduction, and re use in the municipal sector. Mobile Computing Corporation has developed a complete information system for use in measuring and managing municipal solid waste enabling municipalities to implement either user pay by weight or by volume collection programs.
The Mobile Computing System is comprised of a number of vehicle mounted electronic and mechanical units, a wireless data communications network, and a base computer system. A major feature of the Mobile Computing Corporation municipal system is that it provides fully automatic and seamless collection, analysis, and reporting without the need for any driver inputs or additional staff at the base.
On board each garbage collection vehicle is one or more 'weigh in motion' cart or garbage lifting mechanisms that provide accurate (certified) weights of the garbage collected along with the unique identity of the household source of the garbage. The lifter generated weight and identification data are linked to a rugged on-board computer where it is added to other data such as the landfills or transfer stations utilized, the time and date of service, vehicle productivity, and other information. The data from each collection vehicle are automatically sent to a fixed base computer using any one of several available wireless data networks. The fixed base computer gathers and stores all the vehicle generated information and provides analysis, reports, query screens, and the ability to bill each residence in proportion to the weight or volume of materials disposed of.
Vehicle Technology: automatic garbage source identification by radio frequency tags; supports multiple on board lifters (1-4 units); weigh-in-motion vehicle mounted garbage or cart lifter; weights and measures certification (NTEP Class III); wireless communications from vehicle to base.
Base Technology: complete management, analysis and reporting software; enables weight based billing for multiple streams; UNIX Operating System.
