Chemistry: With over 35 professors, 150 graduate students, and facilities and instruments to support all manner of chemical investigations, the Chemistry Department at McGill is one of Canada's foremost. • Patented Method Using Organophosporous Salt

  The method removes lead, cadmium, zinc, and mixtures thereof, present in the aqueous effluent by:

  • contacting the effluent with an organophosphorous salt such as sodium di-(n-octly) phosphinate
  • achieving precipitation by reaction of the metal species with the salt
  • recovering said precipitate by filtration

  Advantageously, the organophosphorous salt may be regenerated from the precipitate.
