Historical Background
The architectural practice was founded in 1954 by Alexander Mayers and James Girvan. Morty WEllen jointed the firm on a full time basis after graducation from McGill University in 1962 and became a partner in 1969.
With the recent retirement of James Girvan, the firm, which started as Mayers & Girvan, Architects, hasd evolved and is now practicing under the name of M. F. Wellen, Architect.
Over the years we have been the Artchitects for more than 1, 500 projects of various sizes and complexities, consisting of both new projects as well as, retrofit and the expansion of existing buildings.
Commercial Projects
For the past 30 years the majority of work hs been in the commerical sector, including the design and construction of numerous enclosed malls strip centres and freestanding buildings containing all the national foodstore and department store tenants (See enclosed documentation).
The company has always been engaged by clientele seeking economical design, while not compromising the aesthetics of the building. Keeping costs within budgetary projections has alwasy been a priority for the architectural firm, as well as for the professional team assembled for each project.
