Company Overview

Lake Agassiz Marine Inc. was established in 1979 as a marine service company to operate the BOUNDARY CREEK MARINA at Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba. The limited size of the Marina's service yard forced the company to search for repair facilities that would accommodate larger vessels. The Gimli Industrial Park, although not located on the water, had the size and height of buildings required. The two mile distance to Lake Winnipeg, was overcome when the company purchases a 20 ton hydraulic boat trailer.

LAKE AGASSIZ MARINE'S service centre at the Industrial Park soon became the hub of operations and transformed the summer business into a year-round marine industry, unique to the prairies. The company presently occupies three buildings totalling 133, 500 square feet of storage and service area for marine related activities. The former hangar building located at 251 Anson Street, now accommodated the Company's office, showroom, shops and approximately 95 boats. The vessels in this building are kept in a heated environment, making repairs and service feasible during the winter months.

LAKE AGASSIZ MARINE owns and operates it's own marine transport equipment providing a complete service to customers. The Company is fully licensed and insured to transport vessels in Manitoba and Ontario. The Company moved and stored over 740 vessels last year extending from sixteen foot sport fishing boats to fifty foot cruisers.

LAKE AGASSIZ MARINE maintains mechanical and woodworking shop facilities at the Gimli location. All vessels laid up here are winter serviced and provided with various refit services as required. During the 1988 winter, LAKE AGASSIZ MARINE completed the major mid-life refit to the Canadian Coast Guard Cutter AVOCET for Transport Canada. The AVOCET has under gone a second refit at L. A. M. in the spring of 1993. The Departments of Fisheries and Oceans, National Defence and Manitoba's Department of Natural Resources regularly have vessels maintained at the Gimli facility. The Company has, over the years, contributed to modifications made to the 110 foot C. C. G. S. NAMAO in Selkirk, Manitoba.
