  • Non-lethal Bear Management Training

    Chief Instructor Dan LeGrandeur specializes in the training of bear awareness and safety in addition to non-lethal methods of preventing human/bear conflicts. Training courses vary from non-lethal bear management training for law enforcement and wildlife managers to safety orientated training for working or recreating in bear country.

    Dan's non-lethal bear management training is endorsed by the Canadian Bear Alliance and the Humane Society of the United States. Previous clients include the RCMP, B. C. Search and Rescue, Resort Municipality of Whistler, B. C. Conservation Officer Service, Halliburton Energy Services, Suncor, Weldwood of Canada, Ministry of Transportation-Prince George, Ministry of Natural Resources-Manitoba, Suncor Energy, Alberta Paper Products and The Alberta Trapper Association.

    As a former B. C. Conservation Officer of 12 years, Dan gained considerable experience in managing human/bear conflicts. Dan was a member of Whistler's Black Bear Task Team and in 1999 implemented Canada's first non/lethal bear management program in Whistler.

    He is also the chief training instructor for the Canadian Bear Alliance and Humane Society of The United States' non-lethal bear management program, providing both in classroom and in the field training to law enforcement officers in Canada and the U. S. pepper spray sprays survival kits Having worked in a wide range of environments from the urban areas of North and West Vancouver to the coastal and rural areas of south-western B. C., Dan has gained extensive experience dealing with a wide variety of conflict situations (farming/ranching, urban areas, remote camps) involving both blacks and grizzlies.

    His knowledge in all aspects of human/bear conflicts further includes educational training (creating Bear Smart communities, bear safety, etc.) trapping, relocation, and tranquilizing. Dan is also a qualified firearms instructor and has considerable experience conducting training courses and public speaking.

    In addition to providing training, Kodiak Security manufactures and distributes the non-lethal environmentally friendly bear protection kit for law enforcement, industry and personal use. Personal Bear Protection Kits and replacement deterrents are also available

  • 12 Gauge Bearbangers

    12 gauge Bearbangers. Projection distance before detonation is approximately 60 meters (200'). Time lapse from firing to detonation is approximately 3-5 seconds. Exploding with a loud bang at end of travel these cartridges are ideal where long range capabilities are required. Use with open choke shotgun only!   • 12 Gauge Comet Flares

    12 gauge Red Comet Flares. Ideal where long range capabilities are required. Packaged 5 per box. Project 55+m (180 ft). Produce a sparkling tail which aids in determining direction of travel. The comet flares have a high candle power and are visible for long distances. A great product when venturing into the backcountry! Use with open choke shot gun only!

    Wilderness hiking can have hazards like any other sport. One of these hazards is bears. To avoid a close encounters with bears, attach a bell to your backpack, walking stick and/or shoe. The bells are the best means of letting the bears know you are hiking along the trail and give the animal time to leave the area. Basically, you don't want to surprise a bear! Kodiak bear bells are made with quality webbing and velcro to easily attach to a pack, walking stick and/or shoe.

  • Critter Gitter Animal Motion/Heat Sensor

    Using passive infrared, body heat and motion detection, Critter Gitter detects animals moving into its protected area. It then makes ear piercing sounds (and flashing lights) to send them fleeing. Once the animal has cleared the area Critter Gitter automatically resets itself. This detector changes its sound and light patterns with each intrusion and protects a diagonal area of up to 40' (depending on the size of the animal).
