John Emery Geotechnical Engineering Limited, Consulting Engineers (JEGEL), ISO 9001 registered, provides consulting engineering, testing, research and development services in the areas of construction materials (concrete, asphalt concrete, soil and rock), pavements, advanced geotechnology and environmental engineering (particularly by-products utilization and soil remediation/ improvement). JEGEL was formed in 1980, and is an independent, employee-owned firm with its main office and laboratory located in Etobicoke (Toronto), Ontario.
JEGEL pavement engineers provide pavement design, rehabilit- ation and management services for flexible, rigid and composite pavements for all applications, drawing on in-house state- of-the-art equipment. The JEGEL asphalt concrete laboratory recently obtained the gyratory compaction and other equipment necessary to complete SHRP Superpave Level 1 mix designs. JEGEL completes comprehensive life cycle cost analyses of pavement alternatives, to select the most cost-effective design meeting the project requirements. Value engineering concepts are applied to optimize pavement designs and construction methods with available construction materials, and develop innovative designs that build on or extend the current practice.
JEGEL's recent involvement in several major Ontario and international highway and airport projects has provided the opportunity to develop in-depth expertise in value engineering of pavement designs, geotechnical and construction materials. JEGEL provided the pavement designs and quality control/quality assurance inspection and testing for the 69 km long Highway 407 toll highway currently under construction across the north part of Toronto and the inaugural total project management reconstruction of 14 km of the Queen Elizabeth Way at Grimsby and recently the reconstruction of Highway 11 near Longlac, Ontario as part of the Northern Road Development Corporation (NRDC). JEGEL is an integral member of the project team recently awarded the design and construction of the Moncton to Fredericton Highway. JEGEL was the also involved in the Highway 104 Western Alignment toll road in Nova Scotia with JEGEL providing pavement design, geotechnical and QA/QC inspection and testing services. JEGEL is also involved as pavements/ geotechnical advisors to the New York-based Ogden Corporation project team for a build- operate-transfer airport expansion in Bogota, Colombia, and to the Government and Pavements Committee for the rehabilitation and widening of the 120 km long Duarte Highway in the Dominican Republic.
Pavmatec Limited and Dynatest Limited are also associated JEGEL companies, with Pavmatec developing specialized materials testing equipment and software for construction materials quality assurance and process control testing), and Dynatest providing falling weight deflectometer testing equipment and pavement testing services and equipment maintenance for the 10 FWDs currently in operation in Canada.
JEGEL has completed numerous pavement design, evaluation, construction materials quality assurance and control testing assignments for Federal, Provincial, State, Research Agency, Municipal and Private sector clients over the past 12 years.
