Iridian Spectral Technologies has proprietary process control technology which was originally licensed from the National Research Council of Canada. The company has access to a variety of deposition processes including advanced high rate sputtering systems and ion plating systems. The deposited films are dense, robust and relatively temperature insensitive. They find application in optical communications systems such as use in conjunction with fiber amplifiers and DWDM transmitting and receiving modules. For more information visit: www. iridian. ca

Founded in 1998, Iridian has invested heavily in research and development to develop advanced technology in thin film design and manufacturing. This technology utilizes a high degree of automation to ensure high quality and low cost products. Iridian has extensive expertise in the design and manufacture of a variety of high performance optical coatings including anti- reflectance, bandpass, edgepass, dichroic, high reflectance, laser line filters, and gain equalization filters.
Black Absorbers are used to provide targets for space vision systems and could be used in any high light intensity environment. Black Absorber targets are designed to absorb light in the spectral region where the human eye is most sensitive. They have already been in use for several years in Space Station missions in conjunction with the Canadarm and Space Vision Systems that are supplied by the Canadian Space Agency. Thin films designed by Iridian Spectral Technologies can withstand the atomic oxygen and survive the hostile environment that the Shuttle and the Space Station must endure.
The main application of thin film etalon filters is in laser stabilization in the transmission modules for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). They can also be used in measurement and test equipment. Iridian's etalon filters are normally supplied to match the ITU wavelengths and cover 50 wavelengths in the 1525-1565 nm band and over 40 wavelengths in the longer wavelength L band. Wavelengths of the supplied filters are accurate to plus or minus 0.25 nm. Special orders can be placed to match any required wavelength within the ranges indicated.

Thin films have the advantage over alternative technologies in that they are passive devices, simple in operation, robust and very insensitive to changes of temperature. Every EDFA amplification system has a different gain characteristic, depending upon both the design and the fiber itself. Designing a gain flattening thin film filter is a new challenge anytime the the gain spectrum is significantly changed. Iridian Spectral Technologies is capable of designing and manufacturing thin film gain flattening filters to your specifications.
Iridian Spectral Technologies manufactures standard and custom thin film optical filters for UV, visible and near-IR applications ranging from optical communication to bio-medical instrumentation such as filters for Spectroscopy (Fluorescence and Raman), fluorescence scanning microscopy and analysis. In addition, Iridian custom coats components such as lenses, prisms, beamsplitters, solid etalons and semiconductor facets. Filters for telecommunications include: GFF; CWDM; WDM filters;
tri-band (1310-1490-1550) filters; edge-pass filters; wavelength lockers; tap coupler filters; monotonic filters. Filters for bio-medical and instrumentation optics include: fluorescence spectroscopy filters; laser line filters; Raman notch filters;
Raman bandpass filters; Raman edge filters; filters for micro- optics and laser instrumentation. Iridian also provides coating services for semiconductor coatings for laser facets as well as custom design and manufacturing, from prototyping to volume production.
