NU-TECH has several technologies in its portfolio available for licensing and commercialization. NU-TECH 's 'Technology Information Profiles' (T. I. P. S.) provide a brief summary and explanation of each of these technology. Our technologies are grouped in 4 general areas:
BioScience Engineering Medical Pharmaceutical
ENGINEERING: TIP #10: Automated Watchman Video Motion Detector A video motion analysis device developed to add intelligent image processing capability to camera-based security systems. TIP #11: Encapsulating Fiber Optic Sensors in Composite Material Techniques have been developed that allow the encapsulation of fiber optic gauges in composite materials. This produces a rod- like carrier with embedded gauge suitable for application to, or embedding within, structures made of metal, concrete, and larger composite parts.
TIP #12: Recovery of Fibers, Wires or Leads Embedded in Pultruded Composite Parts An efficient technique developed for recover of the fiber optic, electrical, or other transmitting fibers, cables or wires of sensors or devices embedded in continuously pultruded composite parts by ensuring the automated manufacturing process is not disturbed, and the continuous manufacturing of composite parts with embedded sensors, wires, or other leads is accomplished easily and cost effectively.
TIP #13: Novel non-invasive device for measuring radiation dosimetry A sensitive, reliable, non-invasive and portable device to survey radiation exposure in the general population.
TIP #19: Real-time Multi-target Motion Capture System A method of efficiently tracking the motion of multiple deformable (e. g. human) targets, using multiple cameras and a single computing capability using basic computers.
TIP #23: Solid Electrolyte Detector; Gas Detection, Identification and Analysis System A specialized form of a solid electrolyte detector which can be incorporated into a variety of embodiments, thereby yielding both a system for and a method of gas detection, identification and/or analysis.
TIP #40: Software for Designing Developable Ship Hulls A computer software program consisting of five components which provide the data entry, hull shape adjustment, line smoothing, frame and plate dimension calculations, such as to produce the complete hull design.
PHARMACEUTICAL:
TIP # 1: HIV-1 Protease Inhibitor No treatment is currently available to prevent or reverse the immunodeficiency of AIDS or ARC caused by the HIV virus. These anti-viral compounds shows exciting promise against these viral diseases.
TIP # 2: Natural products for the treatment of Herpes & related viral infections A novel compound has been identified from a Chinese herbal plant which is an effective agent for treatment of the cytopathogenic effects of herpes and other enveloped viruses.
TIP #25: Method and Composition For Treating Intestinal Wounds or Ulcers A novel compositon and method developed to aid the healing of, or prevention of the onset of, intestinal wounds or ulcers in a patient.
TIP #31: Local Pain Analgesic The use of anti-depressants in topical cream to treat neuropathic pain
BIOSCIENCE:
TIP #15: Single-dose Immunocontraceptive Vaccine for Mammals A single-dose immunocontraceptive vaccine has been developed for population control of several species of domestic and wild animals. TIP #16: Anti-human Apolipoprotein (a) Monoclonal Antibodies Reseachers have produced monoclonal antibodies to apolipoprotein (a) of human lipoprotein (a).
TIP #17: FAST Membrane Fusion Proteins The FAST proteins represent a recently discovered family of proteins responsible for promoting membrane fusion. TIP #18: TNF- a Neutralizing Monoclonal Antibody A new monoclonal antibody (mAb) has been developed which neutralizes rabbit tumour necrosis factor a (TNF). The TNF - a mAb is useful for Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, as an ELISA reagent and neutralization of biological activity. TIP #21C: New Assays for c-jun Gene-Related Fibrotic Diseases and Efficacy of Treatment Significant new research is demonstrating the role of c-jun gene expression in a range of fibrotic and other diseases, where a build up of collagen is implicated. TIP #28: Novel Liquid Crystals, their production and use in chromatography specific applications This invention provides stationary phases that are suitable for use in preparing highly efficient and stable columns for chromatography, particularly for the separation of multiple isomers of organic compounds. TIP #29: A Novel Gene/Enzyme System for ADEPT A novel, single locus gene has been cloned from a bacterial source, and its enzyme product has been characterized for potential applications in ADEPT (antibody-directed enzyme prodrug therapy). TIP #35: An Oral Vaccine For Perpetual Immunization Against Mucosal Pathogens An innovative method and composition for producing an oral vaccine against Bordetella pertussis.
MEDICAL:
TIP #6: Automated Detection and Assessment of Diabetic Retinopathy A computer imaging program developed to assess the seven defined pathologies of diabetic retinopathy in ocular fundus images and provides low cost, early detection and assessment of diabetic retinopathy.
TIP #14: Anesthesia Device for Guiding Needles A dental pressure anesthesia device has been developed which comprises a needle guiding element attached to a handle and having a tip suitable for pressing against a living tissue area to be anesthetized.
TIP #20: Electrophysiologic Heart Imaging & Guiding Systems A proprietary non-fluoroscopic imaging and guiding system for radiofrequency catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias.
TIP #21A: New Uses for Pentoxifylline in Diagnosis and Disease Treatment Pentoxifylline or its functional derivatives are useful in the diagnosis and treatment of a range of target diseases associated with fibrosis. These include conditions characterized by elevated levels of platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) in which the data clearly demonstrates that pentoxifylline effectively reduces PDGF induced c-jun gene expression, without altering c-fos gene expression.
TIP #32: Quality Controlled Compression of ECG Signals Data compression of signals (ECG) allows long term digital storage and archiving of ECG recordings. A novel adaptive data compression algorithm for compressing a single electrocardiogram (ECG) signal which provides clinical restoration at the individual heart beat level at a compression rate twice that of current art, and reconstruction at approximately 10% of the compression computational load.
