Employment Stability and Growth Industrial Metal Fabricators was established in June of 1958 with a staff of approximately 4 people. It has steadily grown to a current staff of 20 people. Most of the staff have come up through the ranks, and most are licensed Sheet Metal Workers. These employees have served an apprenticeship and went on to be among the best sheet metal mechanics in the business. The average employee currently has been with the company in excess of 10 years. The company this past year has hired one new sales person and one new apprentice, (due to a Worker). They are currently in the market for an additional sales person and have taken on a full time Engineer.
We have a policy of training our staff so that they will be able, to handle any project from beginning to end. This involves measuring, fabricating, and installing the entire project. This instills great pride and a sense of accomplishment at the end of each project with our employees.
Entrepreneurship The company has now grown into a combination of wholesaler and sheet metal contractor. It now distributes a major line of dust collectors, noise control material, recycling equipment and specialized pneumatic conveying equipment.
In the past, it has taken the initiative to break into the U. S. market and approximately one-third of the company's business is now exported to the U. S. It has supplied equipment to both the Mexican and European market and hopes to expand these even further.
This past year, Mr. Frank Van Oirschot went to Europe to help Kongskilde, Denmark promote and conduct seminars on their FVO Inline Venturi. This became necessary as it was not being promoted in the manner he felt it should have been. This venture turned out very well as we receive orders regularly now from Europe.
They have also taken on a new line. It is a new Ultraphonic Detection device to locate leaks in air and vacuum leaks. It is currently exclusively marketed by Industrial metal Fabricators in Southern Ontario.
Environmentally Responsible The company has recently completed a Recycling System for one of the Big Three. This system had been planned for the past two years and they finally got it perfected so that it is able to reduce plastic consumption used in the building of dashes by 10%. It has also proven that more and more care components can now be recycled. It also has prevented the scrap from going to landfills, thereby possibly reducing the need for future landfill expansion.
These recycling systems are being used in the paper, plastic and aluminum recycling industry and, as well, we also install air purifying equipment and systems for welding shops and other fume creating equipment. This also reduces the volume of material destined for the landfill as well as cleaning up the air.
Community Commitment The company management and many of its staff are involved in the following charities and sports, eg:
Coaching minor hockey, soccer, Special Olympics, Festival of Nations and Goodfellows. Mr Frank Oirschot is presently on the Executive Council of the Construction Safety Association of Ontario and the Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Council as well as many other industry associations.
Product/Services/Technology/Management Innovations We supply the following equipment: Torit Dust Collectors, Blachford Acoustical Foam, Nederman Fume Extraction Equipment, Bessamaire Evaporative/Cooling Equipment, Kongskilde Pneumatic Conveying Equipment and Plastic Recycling Equipment.
The company services Dust Collection and Fume Equipment, as well as many of its products it markets.
In 1991, the company has patented an Adjustable Inline Venturi that conveys pneumatically material such as continuous trim, styrofoam beads, shielded paper, bulk soda bottles, aluminum pop cans, etc. This unit is unique as it conveys these products without mechanical devices such as augers, fans or conveyors touching the product. We have over 150 of these systems in place throughout Canada, U. S. A., Mexico and Europe.
Mr. Frank Van Oirschot, the General Manager, feels the potential for this new invention has not even scratched the surface yet as new opportunities present themselves almost on a daily basis.
The Patent for the FVO Inline Venturi in Europe has recently been approved. The company now has a larger base of customers in both the Petrochemical Industries. In the past year, the company has stayed with the trend of the times by developing a system which both cleans and conveys coffee beans.
Management/Employee Relations3 This relationship between Management and the Employee has always been a family type of atmosphere where all the employees feel they are members of a team.
This creates a very harmonious workplace making probably one of the best places to learn skills and a general attitude toward good work ethics.
