Mission
INO is a world class center of expertise in optics and photonics that assists companies in improving their competitive edge and developping their business. It conducts research and development on state-of-the-art technology and products that strengthen the country's economy. INO ensures its growth by creating intellectual property and drawing value from it through research and development contracts, prototype production, technology transfer, and the promotion of innovative projects that creates jobs.
Field of Activities
INO maintains and develops a high level of knowledge and expertise in 34 photonic sub-technologies grouped into 10 main technologies and organized in three broad sectors: Microoptics and Microsystems Photonics, Fibers and Lasers and Applied Optical Systems. Its achievements have found applications in the following areas: aerospace, biomedicine, the environment, forestry, industrial processes, transportation, telecommunications, security, and defense. They are put to use in quality control, industrial process monitoring, remote sensing, surveillance, medical diagnosis, telecommunications, object and pattern recognition, night vision, inspection, and analysis. INO stands at the forefront of technology, ready to fulfil industrys needs. To help sustain its scientific research and activities, INO provides computer support, a team of optical and optomechanical engineers and designers, and engineering and electronics workshops. The scientific team has access to the latest in equipment. INO labs include preform fabrication facilities, two fiber drawing towers, and state-of-the-art clean rooms. These facilities are grouped together in a single building 17, 300 m2 in size. INO keeps itself on the technological cutting edge to meet industry needs.
Products and Services
INO has turned its advanced knowledge of physics to good use in the field of light technology. With its cutting-edge equipment and facilities, INO can provide complete integrated services ranging from the design of laser and vision systems to feasibility studies, new concept demonstration, and development of experimental models. INO also offers design, pre-production, and small-scale production of advanced optics systems as well as the design, characterization, and evaluation of components and equipment. INOs know-how and expertise are what set it apart from other research organizations.
INO conducts research, designs and manufactures products and prototypes to customer specifications, and offers small-scale industrial production services. It also designs and manufactures optical devices and components such as graded reflectivity mirrors, diffractive optical elements, and bolometric detectors for use in more complex systems. INO is also the biggest specialty optical fiber manufacturer in Canada and ranks among the leading suppliers in the world.
