Technology Profile:

Hydroxyl Systems utilizes an unprecedented range of environmental technologies for all kinds of water and wastewater treatment challenges. Extensive research and development is the key. At the cornerstone are Advanced Oxidation Technologies (AOT) which generate hydroxyl radicals - the most highly reactive oxidant species known. As well as significantly broadening AOT capabilities, Hydroxyl has optimized complementary treatment processes for solids separation, biodegradation, and disinfection. Combined, these advancements provide an unparalleled range of water treatment solutions. No other company offers such a comprehensive range of effective processes, quality, expertise, and customer care.

Success Stories:

Royal Caribbean Hails Hydroxyl CleanSea 14/11/2002 - Seatrade Insider News reported that Vision of the Seas completed an Alaska season testing the Hydroxyl CleanSea system. Installation began in April, with the new black water treatment system operational for the first June 2 cruise in the 49th state. The technology is also being used on British Columbia Ferry Corporation vessels.

'We are very enthusiastic about the Hydroxyl system, ' Capt. William Wright, Senior VP of Safety and Environment for Royal Caribbean International, tells Seatrade Insider. 'We've spent a great deal of time researching black water treatment technologies on the market. The state-of-the-art Hydroxyl system provides us with the best overall treatment, with no sludge discharges.'

Manufacturer Hydroxyl Marine Systems of Sidney, BC, says CleanSea surpasses IMO and Alaskan HB260 regulations without the use of membranes, filters or chlorine, and is wholly automated for virtually hands-off continuous operation. Independent sample results have been submitted to the US Coast Guard for 7/24 discharge permitting, and Hydroxyl expects Vision of the Seas to receive the appropriate authorisation shortly.

CleanSea includes ORP monitoring and logging to validate effluent quality for discharge. Hydroxyl hopes that USCG will come to view this monitoring as primary validation for discharge fitness.

Proj: Elkhart Indiana Pretreatment Facility Country: United States Contribution:

United Wastewater Management, Inc. (UWM), of Smyrna, Georgia, has opened its third wastewater pretreatment facility, located in Elkhart, Indiana. The facility, which began accepting wastewater today, recently received environmental and operational permits from the City of Elkhart and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM). The facility, which was the former Bayer wastewater pretreatment plant, is permitted to accept up to 100, 000 gallons per day. Initially, the facility is expected to accept wastewater from the Indiana counties of Elkhart and St. Joseph and Michigan counties of Berrien and Cass. The design of the facility allows for the acceptance and treatment of waste streams other than the core waste streams of septage, grease trap and grit, which United intends to pursue in the future.

MtBE groundwater remediation project at JFK Airport, a significant entry into a huge potential environmental technology export market.

Proj: Non-Hazardous Liquid Waste Treatment Facility, Phoenix, Arizona Country: United States Contribution:

Hydroxyls proprietary biosolids recovery techniques allow for the removal and treatment of the solid component of septage sludge and other non-hazardous solids, and conversion to a high-quality EPA 503 approved soil conditioner and fertilizer suitable for agricultural and horticultural applications

  • Hydroxyl Cleansea Vanguard Treatment

The Hydroxyl CleanSea Vanguard treatment systems provide primary disinfection and treatment for public contact waters onboard cruise ships. They offer safe, reliable methods of providing additional treatment for all cruise ship waters which reduce the amount of chlorine required. Pre-treatment with the CleanSea Vanguard systems allow applied chlorine dosages and chlorine residual levels to be kept at minimum values required by Public Health regulations while providing a much higher level of protection for the passengers and crew and improved user satisfaction.

Lower chlorine levels mean significant reduction of taste and odor in drinking water, no chlorine smell when showering, and lower odor and skin irritation in pool and spa waters. The result is reduced chlorine costs and improved water quality along with increased crew and passenger satisfaction.

Lower chlorine levels also result in less chemical addition to maintain water balance (pH, etc.). A secondary benefit of Vanguard is that it is not pH dependent. If the water balance is not maintained, disinfection by Vanguard is not affected. Improper water balance can have significant impact on the ability of chlorine to disinfect.

Vanguard provides double barrier protection when used in conjunction with existing chlorination systems.

Implementing the CleanSea Vanguard treatment strategy improves water quality and protection of onboard drinking water, pools and spas.

Advantages of the Hydroxyl CleanSea Vanguard

    Effective disinfection is assured.

    Improved aesthetic water quality.

Reduced chlorine usage - less chemical handling and storage, lower operations costs.

More effective than chlorine in inactivating most cysts, spores and viruses including E-coli, Norwalk, Cryptosporidium, Legionella and Giardia.

    Destroys chloramines - odor.

    No residual toxicity.

Does not increase TDS level or affect pH levels of water.

    Integrates into existing piping system.

System has no impact on freshwater bunkering operations.

Multiple lamp reactor with wiper for automatic operation and minimal maintenance.

Long life marine-service 40C rated lamps (9000 hrs) are utilized.

The CleanSea Vanguard system is based on a common platform which minimizes training and operational requirements, and spare parts stocked aboard.

  • Leachate Treatment Systems

    Hydroxyls leachate treatment system features:

 a design for specific effluent regulations to allow direct discharge to the environment  effluent that passes salmonid LC20 (96h) bioassays  a modem linked to Hydroxyl Systems Head Office and to facility operators that allows 24-hour surveillance and immediate response to alarm conditions should they arise  complete 100 percent duplicity of all components ensuring total reliability  housing in a skid-mounted 26 ft x 8ft x 8 ft weatherproof container

  • Modular Groundwater Treatment Systems

Hydroxyl Systems' modular groundwater treatment systems offer a competitive advantage over air-stripping and activated carbon for many applications: destruction of organic compounds, no off- gas, and more cost-effective.

  • Mtbe Treatment Systems

Hydroxyl Systems leaders in the treatment of MtBE contaminated groundwater. Treatment features MtBE destruct technologies based on the hydroxyl radical, a powerful and extremely fast oxidizing agent that literally tears the MtBE apart

  • Pool Water And Spa Water Protection

Pool Water and Spa Water Protection Reduce Chlorine Usage and Odor, Provide Additional Protection

Pool and Spa usage aboard cruise ships are part of the passenger vacation experience. The high temperatures and public contact with these waters make them vulnerable to contamination and a potential source for the spread of disease. To combat this, high chlorine levels are typically maintained in pool and spa water. This unfortunately leads to passenger dissatisfaction due to skin irritation and chlorine odors.

Hydroxyls CleanSea Vanguard is a UV based treatment system designed to integrate into existing pool and spa mechanical equipment to provide a means of reducing chlorine usage and at the same time increasing overall levels of protection against waterborne disease.
