St Andrews, NB
The Huntsman Marine Science Centre is a membership-driven, not-for-profit organization founded in 1969 by a consortium of 20 universities in Eastern Canada pooling their resources to provide field research and teaching facilities to complement their programs in marine biology and oceanography. The spirit of cooperation that gave rise to the Huntsman as a centre for university research has grown over the years to encompass government, industry and the public, today providing opportunities for marine scientific research, information and technology transfer and education and training unequalled in Canada.
Facilities include well-equipped teaching and aquaculture research laboratories, a 15 m research vessel, dining rooms and accommodations.
The Huntsman is located in St. Andrews, New Brunswick on the shores of the St. Croix Estuary of the Bay of Fundy, one of the most diverse marine regions in the world, providing exceptional opportunities for studying transitional zones between terrestrial, aquatic and marine environments.
Huntsman has twice received the Gulf of Maine Visionary Award - in 1991 for our Public Education Program and in 1999 recognizing the lifelong work of our senior scientist emeritus, Dr. W. B. (Bev) Scott.
