In September 2000 HOBIC was bought by Atlas Copco.

HOBIC BIT INDUSTRIES CORPORATION was formed in 1986 to manufacture drill bits, core bits and sidetrack bits for the oil field industry. In 1990, HOBIC diversified into manufacturing core bits, reamer shells and casing shoes for mineral exploration applications. It forms part of the exploration Product Line.

The personnel at Hobic have over 80 years experience in the oil and mining exploration industry. Their expertise in product design, engineering and manufacturing has placed Hobic at the forefront of diamond drill bit.

Using strict quality controls, sophisticated proprietary furnacing techniques, together with metal powder technology expertise, HOBIC manufactures a broad range of matrices to meet today's drilling and cutting demands.

Hobic also manufacturers a complete line of surface set bits for drilling soft formations. These products are set with natural or polycrystalline diamonds, depending on the formations to be drilled.
