Pre- Evaluation of the Project – Establish the size and scope of the project, determine client objectives and goals, discuss materials and tools required to complete the project, acquire ALL content to be developed in raw or data format, existing as well as new material Site Direction – Identifying Target Audience Establish a timeline and discuss allocation of resources and site maintenance following completion Identify need for Meta Data and establish Data Collection protocol Site statistics available? Analyze existing site (if any) and any other sites deemed relevant by the client, prepare recommendations for upgrades/changes and justify Establish method of development – i. e. Which tools, software, hardware, scripting & coding languages will be acceptable & available Acquire sources of information pertaining to unique provincial requirements as well as federal requirements Identify possible opportunities to maximize the utility of the site and explore interactive applications Identify possible site maintenance utility/process that will ensure upon completion that the site content remains current Identify Target Audience, Accessibility Issues, Other Possible Issues and Possible Problems and how to avoid them Present findings to client for feedback
Begin by developing a detailed sitemap (text and/or graphic), layout and storyboards Establish Splash Page Layout, Main Page Layout, Develop Template to include Top Level Navigation Menu and required elements as per CLF, Page Header, Page Footer and standard sidebar and sidebar navigation Select appropriate formatting Colours, Fonts and begin development of CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) in accordance with CLF (Common Look and Feel) Establish site structure, folder and sub-folder names as per CLF file and folder naming conventions Add Doctype Statement, Character Encoding Meta Data and CSS link to document Head Prepare Project Development Tacking Sheet - See Appendix F
Evaluate development thus far by discussing with client(s) Discuss CLF – Formatting, Site Appearance, Colours, Fonts, etc. Liase with other parties involved in process Collect Meta Data
Begin adding content, text, graphics, tables, hyperlinks, to the template file and rename and index the file Add Meta Data to all files for Search Indexing Test completed file(s) for W3C Validation fix any problems Test completed file(s) for spelling, hyperlinks, special characters, character encoding using one of many tools, ideally Macromedia Homesite, and fix any problems Upload and test site/file(s) on a staging server, with multiple platforms, Windows, Mac & Linux/Unix Test site/file(s) with multiple browsers, multiple versions of Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera & Mosaic, and make any necessary adjustments and corrections Test Files for Screen Resolution Optimization and File Size Optimization to ensure maximum viewable area and rapid download times
Seek final approval from the client to complete final draft Discuss any more related issues
Verify that all code is accurate and complete and in compliance with both W3C standards and with Federal Government Common Look and Feel Standards Make Back up copy of existing site, then proceed with Upload of new site/ file(s) on an as is required basis. Establish and develop maintenance schedule
