FITT - Canada's centre for international trade training - is a national, not-for-profit, professional organization, founded in 1992 by industry and government to develop and deliver international trade training programs and services, establish country-wide standards and certification, and generally ensure continuing professional development in the practice of international trade. FITT programs are delivered across Canada through community colleges, universities, private organizations and the Internet.

Canada's economic well-being hinges on the improved performance of Canadian business people and companies doing business in the international marketplace. Through its training programs, FITT supplies individual entrepreneurs and business professionals working for firms that want to become global players with practical trade skills and a competitive leading edge. The growing number of skilled entrants into the international market place will help fuel the growth of the Canadian economy which in turn will translate into more business and employment opportunities for Canadians.

The Forum for International Trade Training is a private-sector driven organization. To date, the private sector has contributed in kind support totalling in the millions. Canadian industry works closely with FITT in the design, development and evaluation of the curriculum as well as in assessing sectoral needs. The Forum for International Trade Training is guided by a Board of Directors that represents key industry leaders. Members include the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters, the Canadian Professional Logistics Institute, the Canadian Professional Sales Association, business and educational institutions.

Present government partners include Human Resources Development Canada, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Industry Canada. FITT is supported by provincial governments through the many educational institutions across the country that are partners in the delivery of its FITTskills program.

The success of the Forum for International Trade Training is another example of business working together with government to strengthen the Team Canada partnership. Through their collective contributions, these key stakeholders have created a blueprint for success in international trade.
