The Ferguson/Engineered Aluminum Products Group of Companies
Canada's climate is one of the most diverse in the world. Temperatures range from hot, humid and highs of 40C in some areas to lows in the Arctic of -60C. In some parts of the country, a single location can have temperature range from lows of -35C to highs of +35C. Many parts of the country have heavy rainfall and hail, and other parts endure tornados. West of the Rocky Mountains, like many countries in the Pacific Rim, Canada has significant exposure to earthquakes.
This diverse and variable climate has created a construction industry which is amongst the most technically advanced in the world. Canadians have been forced to study and understand building science in order to design and build buildings that keep out the cold, the wind and rain, and the heat, while providing a comfortable environment in which to live, work, and play. The Research Councils in Canada provided the initial impetus to start the development and thinking of the science of building enclosures, which would enable the building to perform under varied and extreme weather conditions. This research was continued and expanded upon by private corporations and individuals who refined it for their own areas of business.
Not only has advanced building design science been forced upon us by weather conditions, the methodology used to actually erect or construct buildings has become sophisticated for the same reasons. The construction season in Canada is typically very short, and erection had to be performed during the warmer weather, or the Contractor had to maintain expensive temporary enclosures which would enable him to continue working when weather conditions were less than desirable. Canadian contractors have learned to perform the work quickly, and at the least possible cost.
These technologies were first extensively taken advantage of in Western Canada, as the harshest conditions have always occurred in that part of the country.
Our company continued the research and development of building enclosure and erection technology for their own curtain wall, window and skylight systems. Ferguson/EAP Group have worked in this environment for thirty years. The engineering group have developed procedures and systems that have been proven to work in these extreme conditions. Through insitu use and through testing in their own testing facilities, systems have been perfected which guarantee performance.
Ferguson/EAP Group has grown in thirty years from a single start up company to a small group of companies consisting of:
The Ferguson Group, the construction and service arm of the operation;
The Engineered Aluminum Products Inc. (EAP), the design, engineering, and manufacturing component of the operation.
Today, the Ferguson/EAP Group concentrates mainly on specialty building enclosures, undertaking millions dollars worth of work per year, utilizing any one of their patented Curtain Wall or erection systems. Ferguson/EAP currently has several panalized or unitized wall systems, not only for glass, but also for Granite and Ceramics.
Ferguson/EAP have developed consulting relationships with architects, engineers, and other companies. Ferguson/EAP provide the consulting expertise and confidence to the engineering and architectural community for the work in which they are engaged. The solutions are creative and frequently innovative, but make sense and work. Their particular expertise is in "Rain Screen" and Building Envelope systems.
Ferguson/EAP is able to design, engineer, fabricate, and install glazing or any building enclosure systems, anywhere in the world. In cases where fabrication and installation capabilities are available locally, only the technology and the engineering services are provided.
Ferguson/EAP work with the Architect by providing advice and assistance in the design of the building enclosure system. We provide guidance on connection details, frame sizes, glass types and thicknesses, thermal and shading performance. Details for manufacturing and construction are also provided.
EAP has their own manufacturing facility which has the capability of manufacturing custom systems for several individual unique projects all at one time. EAP also has the ability to source manufactured products from many facilities around the world who manufacture to EAPspecifications.
EAP uses advanced computer aided drafting techniques, computer aided design, and has automated the production of fabrication drawings from shop drawings. The company has designed and installed enclosure and glazing systems in many of western Canada's most unique buildings, such as Bankers Hall and the Telus Convention Centre in Calgary, The West Edmonton Mall, The Edmonton City Hall, and Pacific Center and the B. C. Gas building in Vancouver. EAP has exported engineered and manufactured products to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia and to the Winter Garden in Battery Park, New York.
Ferguson/EAP's export interests are:
manufacture of building enclosure products.
that perform in unique climates.
manufacture and construction of a building exterior wall system.
Ferguson/EAP have a vision. The vision is the driving force that keeps the Company moving in an innovative manner towards the visions of our Customers. Our goal is to have
