The Edmonton Waste Management Centreof Excellence (EWMCE) is a public-private partnership initiative between the City of Edmonton, University of Alberta, Alberta Research Council, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Olds College, and AMEC Earth and Environmental Ltd. The partnership was initiated in 1999 and led to the incorporation of the EWMCE as a not-for-profit organization in 2003. The EWMCE has the vision of being recognized as a leader in the development of state-of-the-art knowledge, technology and facilities forwaste management. Through its members, the EWMCE provides a combination of academic and practical expertise, which is unique in the world and gives members and clients access to a wide spectrum of waste management research, training and practical expertise. One of the outstanding features of the EWMCE is that it provides access to the City of Edmontons municipal facilities, which encompass the worlds largest variety of leading-edge waste management facilities within a small geographic area, including one of the worlds most advanced biological wastewater treatment plants and North Americas largest co-composting plant.
