Success Stories:

Dieffenbacher take-over of Schenck

The structural changes among the machine-building industry resulting from this concentration even did not spare companies with a long tradition. The most recent example is the take-over of a majority stake in Darmstadt-based Schenck Panel Production Systems GmbH by J. Dieffenbacher Maschinenfabrik GmbH, Eppingen. This take-over has been discussed for two years; it will create a combination which from one hand offers a wide spectre of machinery for the production and the finishing of wood-based panels. Schenck PPS and Dieffenbacher group thus are considered the second supplier of complete parts, apart from Siempelkamp group.

In end-March the contracts have been signed about the take-over of a majority stake in Schenck PPS by Dieffenbacher. The take-over has come into force with retrograde effect as of 1January,

  • Talks about a closer co-operation between

the two companies started in summer 1996. Schenck in the future will be known as Dieffenbacher Schenck Panel Production Systems GmbH, and it will continue as independent company with headquarters in Darmstadt, under the management of Dieffenbacher group. With this take-over Dieffenbacher group will be in a position to offer most of the plants for the production of wood-based panels. Dieffenbacher and Schenck are supplementing each other in their activities about the planning and the manufacture of plants for the production of wood-based panels.

Dieffenbacher has specialised on presses for the production and lamination of wood-based panels, whereas Schenck PPS apart from the supply of laminating and spreading equipment has concentrated on the projecting of complete plants. For numerous projects of Schenck PPS for the supply of complete plants Dieffenbacher had acted as sub-supplier of presses. With the take- over of this majority stake the newly formed Dieffenbacher group with several production sites in Europe and North America and a world-wide distribution network will account for total sales more than DM300m; the export share will be in the range of 75%.
