Design Shelter Inc. (DSI) is a Mississauga Ontario based manufacturer of portable shelter systems and accessories that specializes in outfitting emergency services/management teams with turn key field camp solutions.
In partnership with the leading manufacturer of portable isolation equipment and portable air purification systems, FailSafe Air Safety Systems (www. fasscorp. com), DSI has developed the Portable Isolation Containment System (PICS).
In response to requests from customers worldwide for a solution to care for multiple patients in a negative or positive or both pressure environments, DSI invested in the development and launch of PICS.
PICS is a stand alone temporary portable isolation solution to be used for individual hospital surge capacity and for isolation of patients affected by infectious microbes (such as TB, SARS, Avian or Bird flu) or for patients subjected to acts of bio- terrorism (Anthrax or Smallpox).
DSI has designed PICS to be used as a stand alone single patient or as a shared 10 patient configuration. Multiple 10 patient facilities can be easily connected together to form a field ready medical complex with rooms and passageways.
The PICSHVAC environmatal control unit utilizes HEPA and optional HEGA filtration as well as standard dual directed UV light. The PICSHVAC unit also produces ozone for shelter and equipment decontamination after an infectious disease event. Heat is provided by 20 kW of forced air electric heat and cooling utilizing a 3 ton air conditioner (an optional 5 ton AC unit is also available). The PICSHVAC is a versitile machine offerring significant value to emergency health care workers in a pandemic surge capacity event.
Each PICS shelter has been designed for either a negative pressure (isolation) environment or positive pressure (protective) environment. Each shelter is 19 wide x 35 long, and is outfitted with double width doors at each end, thermal insulation, vinyl floor, wiring harness kit, fluorescent lights and integrated doctor/nurse desk stations. The internal air environment is conditioned for maximum efficiency of heating in winter and cooling in summer with our portable combined electric forced air integrated heating and cooling A/C system.
Air quality is provided by FailSafes FASS technology with automatic dampers built in to create either negative or positive pressure environments within the shelter proper and designed to exceed US CDC guidelines for patient isolation. This is achieved by air filtration, air-born bug destruction, minimum required air changes, airflow and internal structure pressure differential. All PICS products are designed to be easily transportable or stored ready for immediate use.
