Conrad Grebel University College, University of Waterloo, has the longest standing Peace and Conflict Studies program in Canada. The Certificate Program in Conflict Management grows out of the belief by the College, influenced by its rootedness in Mennonite theology, that collaborative responses to conflict, rather than adversarial processes, are most effective in building long-term relationships that best serve the interests of all parties. The program, at the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, is designed to provide practical and relevant skills training in conflict management. It prepares participants to respond in creative and positive ways to the conflict each may face in their daily lives. Instructors employ information sharing, case studies, role plays and group discussion to illustrate collaborative responses to conflict. Participants learn theory and experiment with techniques to develop confidence in their ability to effectively problem solve in business, societal and personal situations. All workshops offered are open to any person with interest in a specific workshop, or who may wish to pursue the non-degree Certificate in Conflict Management. No previous experience or undergraduate degree in conflict resolution is required. There is flexibility to design a program that meets your specific needs and interests, and to take workshops at your own pace. A maximum enrollment of 24 people per workshop ensures individual attention. Proficiency in written and spoken English is an asset. On-site, customized training is also available.

'An intelligent and engaging blend of theory and practical applications, presented by capable, articulate and animated teachers. The program is as advertised! It delivered on its commitment to pass on knowledge, skills and tools----useful both personally and professionally.' -Catherine M. Motz, Lawyer and Management Trainer
'I feel better prepared to negotiate, advocate and mediate because of the learning that took place. I view conflict differently now. I understand the various tactics people use in my workplace, church and personal life to resolve conflict. I feel I have gained great insight into the most compassionate way of resolving conflict. I am appreciative of all the efforts made by Grebel, and the various players who enable these courses to be offered. I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in resolving conflict in a non-violent and compassionate way.' -Rebecca Lovering Spencer, Community Facilitator
'As an independent consultant serving the real estate and construction industries in Canada, I recently decided to add mediation and dispute resolution to the services I offer clients. Conrad Grebel University College provided training and education through a series of courses in its Conflict Management certificate program. I not only found the specific subject material invaluable to my consulting practice but gained insight into broader issues of conflict in world society. Such insight has sparked an interest and curiosity in me to further understand, as an intellectual pursuit, the presence of conflict in our lives and how to properly deal with it. For this I am particularly grateful.' -Geoffrey Church
