Challenger Geomatics Ltd.(CGL) is an established Canadian geomatics firms with offices located in Edmonton and Calgary, Canada as well as affiliated companies in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria. The firm is owned and operated by experienced surveyors, engineers, town planners, technologists, software and GIS specialists and support personnel. Challenger has been developing software and configuring hardware systems in support of survey and mapping operations since the company began in 1984. Although the company is relatively young, their personnel have an average of over 20 years experience in the geomatics field as well as working experience in over 20 countries.

Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are a satellite based technology and have been employed world-wide by CGL in seismic, navigation, boundary and Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) systems.

Challenger's GPS experience is now being used to collect geographic field data for real-time digital mapping. CGL uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to capture, maintain, manipulate and display spatially referenced information.

The provision of geomatic services in GIS, GPS and AVL reflects Challenger's continued pursuit to deliver 'total solutions' for their clients' land information needs.   Using Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology, Challenger Surveys can chart the extent of an oil spill as well as monitor its movement. Using Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) technology, Challenger can monitor the precise movements of the clean up boats and also direct boats to the edges of the spills, even at night.

  Using GPS and GIS technologies, Challenger can collect all the data, on-shore and along the coastline (including several hundred meters offshore) to prepare maps and other reports. Data on maps/reports can be updated as needed. These maps/reports are essential to monitor erosion or effects of oil spills or other environmental concerns affecting the shoreline.
