The Community Business Resource Centre (CBRC) was established by the George Brown College Foundation in 1989. The CBRC has operated as a private training and consulting organization since 1995. It is managed by a nine-member Board of Directors.
The CBRC is a unique organization which functions as a training and resource centre for business and economic development. The Centre operates six services including:
The CBRC is also a trainer for St. Francis Xavier University's certificate program in Community Development training and was the initial sponsor of the Greateeer Toronto Area Community Loan Fund.
Each year, an estimated 3, 000 people participate in the Centre's training programs, seminars and workshops. 85% of the clients in CBRC's Self Employment Assistance training programs successfully start business ventures. Also, the CBRC's entrepreneurship skills development program for social assistance recipients had one of the highest success rates in Ontario. In addition, the CBRC has the highest number of new Canadians who successfully complete their self-employment training.
During the past five years, the CBRC has assisted in the establishment of more than 1, 000 new small businesses, 20 local development corporations and development banks and 5 municipal economic development ventures. All entrepreneurship training programs offered by the CBRC are recognized by the provincial and federal governments and the major chartered banks.
Currently, CBRC operates an office at 145 Front Street East, Suite 101, Toronto with training facilities in Toronto, Barrie and partner sites around the GTA.
