Montreal-based B. J. Toys started out as a simple toy and game supplier in 1976.
The company quickly set itself apart from the competition by importing educational and non-violent toys - a largely unexplored segment in the early eighties. By 1985 B. J. Toys had firmly established its toy-industry roots by creating and distributing its own line of quality-made wooden games.
Through 1992 and 1993 B. J. Toys acquired the two lines that its probably best known for today - Tutti Frutti Scented Modeling Dough and the growing group of Yum board games. The Tutti Fruitti line, which is now exported worldwide, has received several honours since its introduction including a Canadian Toy Testing Council 'Three Star' award and the 'Prix d'Excellence' from the Quebec Consumers' Association. More recently Tutti Fruitti won the prestigious Toy of the Year Award from Family Fun Toys and a Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award.
Other lines, now in the B. J. family include Roll-O-Puzz puzzle accessories, Nathan puzzles and games, and Matchitecture. Today the company, headed by Jacques Richer and President Georges Gareau, employs a staff of 60 and exports its well-known products to more than 40 countries.
