Founded in 1994, Biomedical Photometrics Inc. (BPI) develops multifunctional laser scanners and software that employ patented confocal MACROscope technology. Resulting products offer multiple detection methods (fluorescence, transmission, reflectance etc.), high optical resolution, and a wide field-of-view, allowing large specimens to be imaged 10 times as fast without image integrity issues as compared with traditional tiling imaging techniques.
The GeneFocus division designs and manufactures instrumentation and software used in unraveling the mysteries of the human genome and proteome. GeneFocus produces cost-effective systems, adaptable to a variety of DNA, protein, and tissue array application areas.
GeneFocus and BPI products are world renowned for high sensitivity, accuracy, flexibility and speed and are applied by leading pharmaceutical, health, academic, and government organizations for gene expression, tissue and cell imaging in laboratory medicine, and even live specimen imaging. Major customers around the world include Roche (USA, Switzerland), PMH (Canada), 3M (USA), RIKEN Genome Science Center (Japan), Canadian Food Inspection Agency (Canada).

BPIs core business is manufacturing custom confocal imaging systems based on the patented MACROscope technology originally developed at the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada), and owned by Biomedical Photometrics. The 'flex-design' concept for designing and manufacturing new custom laser scanning products is used to accommodate many types of biochips, materials, and even live specimens. The MACROscope design enables both high optical resolution and wide field-of-view, allowing the entire specimen to be imaged without tiling and/or stitching together many small images. All BPI products have high sensitivity, accuracy, flexibility and speed.

The Microscope / MACROscope is a unique laser confocal epifluorescence scanning system that uses proprietary MACROscope laser scanning technology and allows high resolution imaging of large specimens and a high level of customization.
Main Features:
Two High Resolution Laser Confocal Scanning Instruments in One large scan area - (20mm x 20mm @ 2micron res.) high resolution - (1mm x 1mm @ 0.2micron res.) MACROscope laser scan lens & Microscope Scan Head
Applications: Tissue Imaging, Cellular Biology, Neurobiology, Pathology, Genomics and Proteomics, Materials Science, Q. C.
The TISSUEscope is a fully integrated system for fluorescent, transmitted and reflected light scanning of biological tissue samples and tissue microarrays, based on patented MACROscope confocal laser scanning technology. The MACROscope design enables both high optical resolution and wide field-of-view, allowing an entire specimen in an area up to 22mm X 70mm to be scanned in a single pass thereby minimizing tedious 'tiling' and/or stitching together of many small images.
