ASTRIS=ENERGY INC. is publicly traded Canadian corporation (ASTS on CDN; ATREF on NASDAQ) located in Mississauga, Ontario. The private predecessor company was a ten year old Canadian energy alternatives company.
The company has spent nearly $10 million in Alkaline Fuel Cell (AFC) development between 1986 and 1995, and has sold two 1 kW AFC's to arms length customers in Canada and Europe.

Financial support for various Astris research projects associated with fuel cells in general and AFC's in particular has been obtained over the years from Industry Canada and other federal Agencies.
ASTRIS=ENERGI has been a member of the Hydrogen Industry Council (HIC) since 1987 and receives financial support from it for fuel cell development projects, some of which are carried out with other organizations. Astris collaborates with the Electrolyzer Corporation Limited and numerous academic institutions with which Astris has forged alliances.
Fuel cell generators can be used wherever power is needed and is not available from the electrical utility grid - in golf carts, forklifts, spacecraft, submarines, luxury sailboats, motor homes, other electric vehicles, portable generators of all sizes and all other self-contained requirements for electric power, including the vast co-generation market for residential power.
