ATD Waste Systems Inc. have developed a hog manure management system for demonstration. This on-farm, zero discharge system accepts manure daily to produce a pathogen free natural slow release pelleted fertilizer, recycling water back to the operation. The system takes waste from the barns daily or more frequently, eliminates the need for a lagoon and land disposal of liquid wastes, thereby eliminating anaerobic activity and the possiblity of odours. Breakeven is dependent on current costs of disposal, all of which will be eliminated, any reduction in water and land costs and the sale of solids as fertilizer or fuel and greenhouse gas reduction credits. New revenue streams will provide a safety net to offset the effects of cyclical swings in hog prices.
ATD is seeking a demonstration host site to assist in commercialization of this system.
