Wotherspoon Environmental Inc. (WEI) commenced operations in 1988 with the primary objective to assist industry in the development of effective environmental programs. This has been achieved through the preparation of corporate environmental policies, environmental site assessments, audits and site assessments, spill contingency and emergency response plans, oil spill equipment research, waste management manuals, site reclamations, and the production of training programs and operating guidelines.
WEI has conducted corporate environmental audits and assessments that have included visits to over 1850 industrial sites. Projects involving contingency planning and environmental operational training have been conducted throughout Western Canada, the Canadian offshore, Central America, South America, the Middle East and Russia.
Company personnel have educational and professional backgrounds in both engineering and biology and are able to offer a wide range of consulting services. All company personnel have continued with their career development through courses at the University of Calgary, the Banff School of Management and the Petroleum Industry Training Service. These courses have included site decommissioning and reclamation, soil sampling, oil spill countermeasures, lease management, impact assessment, waste management, pollution monitoring, and project cost control.
WEI is a corporate member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta, the Environmental Services Association of Alberta, and the Canadian Environmental Auditing Association. WEI carries both general liability and environmental liability insurance as per the requirements of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation for conducting environmental assessments of commercial and residential sites.
