WATCH4NET Solutions was chosen to implement an integrated system intended to ensure optimum service quality for the RCMPs information system. This system, which will be deployed on sites across Canada, responds to three types of needs: real-time monitoring of efficient systems operations (availability, performance), network analysis (inventory, traffic distribution) and capacity planning. This project represents a total budget of nearly 1 millions $CDN over the first five years. After an initial phase of writing specifications, a public call for tenders was issued in 2001, with WATCH4NET Solutions coming in first, in partnership with InfoVista, a leading provider of performance software solutions. The main selection criteria concerned the technical quality of the bid, the quality of the response (proposed architecture and project methodology), the similar references and the price. A proof of concept was then developed to validate the proposals retained. From a software standpoint, WATCH4NET Solutions offering relies on the InfoVista product for data collection and report generation, on ServerAnalysis SNMP agents for systems and applications monitoring, and on Cisco router on-board agents for network statistics. This solution constitutes a system composed of complementary tools, based on standards, and totally integrated with the applications already present at the RCMP. This project will interface with the existing administrative applications, and altogether will provide the RCMP with all the necessary tools to supervise, configure and monitor systems, the network and the applications. The project is currently in the integration phase and will be deployed gradually.
