The ACELP technology platform has led to hundreds of granted patents and patent applications, which are included in fifteen international telecommunication standards, notably: GSM EFR (ETSI), PCS 1900, IS136 (TIA, North American TDMA), IS 95 (TIA, North American CDMA), TETRA (ETSI), G.729 (ITU-T), G.723.1 (ITU-T), AMR (Adaptive Multi-Rate) narrowband (ETSI and 3GPP), AMR-WB (3GPP), G.722.2 (ITU-T), MPEG-4 CELP Audio (ISO), PDC-EFR (ARIB-Japan), VMR-WB (3GPP2), and most recently, AMR-WB+ (3GPP).

VoiceAge also represents and manages, as a license service provider, various Patent Pools with the relevant patent owners. These Patent Pools were created to accelerate market adoption of specific telecommunication standards by providing users a simplified way to access the technology. The Patent Pools provide users with convenient, fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory access to a portfolio of essential worldwide patents under a single license agreement.

The Universit de Sherbrooke, in partnership with Sipro Lab Telecom Inc., founded VoiceAge Corporation (Montreal, Canada) in 1999.
