Environmental Profile
Waste Management and Process Development: Vizon SciTec conducts environmental studies and investigations related to water quality and ground contamination. Our services include monitoring and field sampling, site characterization, environmental audits, toxicity assessments and impacts, treatability studies, bench scale treatment, pilot plant treatment, and customer specific methods to reduce contamination through process changes or treatment.
Risk Management and Training: Scientifically supported human health and ecological risk assessment is undertaken based on our expertise in exposure and toxicology issues. We provide quantitative risk analysis based on statistical probabilities using industry proven data and our own defensible research data. In conjunction with this we also offer an extensive program of training in hazardous material handling and health & safety practices. In addition to project specific risk assessments we also undertake various roles in risk management planning and implementation in an on-going support role to our clients.
Toxicology and Environmental Effects: A comprehensive range of toxicity testing is conducted, including: fresh water bioassays; sea water bioassays; sediment bioassays; soil bioassays; genotoxicity and biomarker bioassays; in-situ bioassays; microtox; bioaccumulation tests, diagnostics tests and research studies. Toxicologists compliment these tests with toxicity investigations, toxicity audits, toxicity identification studies, toxicity reduction evaluations, and remedial evaluations of toxic effluents.
Environmental & Chemical Services:
Vizon SciTec's full service laboratories for organic and inorganic chemistry enables us to provide routine and non-routine analysis and field analysis for a wide range of parameters. Organic contaminants can be measured to parts per trillion levels if required and our staff can provide investigative analysis and interpretation.
Acid Mine Drainage:
Vizon SciTec developed some of the test methods now widely used for acid mine drainage prediction. A complete range of testing is offered to the mining industry for every phase of mine start up, operation and decommissioning. These tests include waste characterization, static and kinetic tests, data interpretation, and AMD control assessment. Chemical and toxicity analysis complement a full range of testing services for the mining industry.

Vizon SciTec Inc. offers extensive capabilities in waste treatment, specializing in providing solutions to hard to treat waste or in recovering value from waste liquids, solids and gases.
Vizon SciTec Inc. uses its expertise in process and waste treatment engineering, chemistry, and biology to deliver a complete and cost-effective solution to your pollution problem. They use their abilities to develop solutions which start in the laboratory and take them through to pilot scale testing. As an example of the types of processes developed, a process for heavy metal contaminated solid waste stabilization was recently developed by Vizon SciTec Inc.
Many companies need to measure the concentrations of chemicals in effluent water, process streams, or as part of product quality control procedures. Flow analysis methods, in automating this process, facilitate more rapid analyses with better precision and accuracy, lower reagent costs and decreased chemical waste. Instead of mixing the chemicals to do the tests by hand or via manual titrations, flow analysis methods pump small amounts of selected chemicals through small-bore pipes so that they mix together automatically. This results in highly repeatable results and use of much smaller volumes than are common for manual methods. Quite often the same chemistry as was used manually can be automated.
Most flow analysis systems support only a single chemistry at one time and are not well suited to the rigors of the industrial process environment or remote use for at-site environmental monitoring. Vizon SciTec Inc. has applied for patents on what it believes will be the next generation of flow analysis technology - flow analysis networks. These robust computer-controlled devices, presently at the demonstration prototype stage, will support multiple chemistries simultaneously on one unit, internal standardization, and truly flexible solution manipulation. The development project is led by Dr. Jim McKinley. Vizon SciTec Inc. is presently undertaking Beta Site testing of the technology with selected clients for the technology and welcomes interest from potential clients in other application areas.
A process is described for removing dissolved silicon-containing species from an aqueous solution by treating the solution with an effective amount of a partially dehydrated trivalent metal hydroxide adsorbent. Preferably, the adsorbent is ferric oxyhydroxide. The process is of particular use in removing silicon-containing species from alkaline chloride and/or chlorate containing solutions and from pulp mill alkaline liquors.
