English For Academic Purposes
English Communication
In these courses, students will focus on speaking (vocabulary development and pronunciation) and listening
skills. Some writing and grammar will be included. An interactive approach will be used to involve students in
conversations, and the small class size (approximately 10 to 12 students) and supportive environment will ensure
that everyone has the opportunity to develop their communication skills.
Pre-requisite: All new students must take a placement test. Students must be aged 16 or over.
Academic Wrting Skills
This course is designed for people who want to prepare for the Vanier College English Admission Test. Students
will learn practical skills such as: looking for main ideas in a text, forming an opinion on a reading, summarizing

structuring your essay, and writing grammatically correct sentences. Note: Taking this course does not
guarantee admission to Vanier College. This is not a basic writing course.
Pre-requisite: Students must have advanced speaking skills and intermediate writing skills. Students must be
aged 16 or over.
