WaveCom Electronics Inc. operates in four key new technology sectors: Data-Over-Cable; Broadband Wireless, Digital Video and Telemedicine. All of these technology sectors are now undergoing or are poised for phenomenally rapid growth.
Advanced RF communications design is WaveComs core strength. The coupling of this expertise with an extensive RF design library, rapid design-to-manufacturing cycle time and high- volume manufacturing positions WaveCom ahead of the market, developing strategic partnerships with key OEM customers and with a growing family of WaveCom-branded products.
WaveCom began when Dr. Surinder Kumar, entrepreneur founder, current chairman and president entered into a contract to develop bi-directional feed forward amplifiers for a major American antenna supplier. Dr. Kumars patented designs made reliable cellular telephone communications in RF unfriendly places like subways and tunnels possible for the first time. These pioneering and incredibly successful designs launched WaveCom on the journey to where it is today!
On the way, WaveCom has established a reputation for high- performance, fast-turnaround design at very competitive prices. Market-leading expertise has been developed in high frequency RF circuit design, high order modulation schemes, techniques for coexistence of high-speed digital and high frequency RF, microwave circuit design, custom RF circuit elements, designs for automatically compensated high volume RF circuit manufacturing, and more. WaveCom also offers a complete line of commercial quality analog CATV products renowned as technically superior, robust and reliable.
The list of advanced WaveCom RF and product designs currently in use worldwide includes: 256 QAM Upconverters, QAM Modulators, Frequency Translators, Agile Modulators, RF Frequency Stackers and low-cost Modulators/Signal Processors for Video-On-Demand (VOD). This list goes on to include Broadband Wireless Products such as: Subscriber Transceivers, QAM Upconverters, Transmitters, Power Amplifiers and Receiver/Downconverters for frequencies from 2.1GHz to 31GHz.
As WaveCom has grown, so has its investment in human resources, physical plant and capital assets. WaveCom is a Canadian company with a 12, 000 square ft research facility and a 27, 000 sq. ft. manufacturing plant in Saskatoon, Canada. In 1997, WaveCom also opened a new 8, 000 sq. ft Microwave Research Facility in Victoria, Canada. New design and high-volume production facilities are in the planning stages and will be on line soon. As of August, 2000 the company has grown to approximately 240 employees with continuous recruitment ongoing.

The HD4040 is a digital upconverter which achieves previously unavailable density and conservation of headend rack space for upconverter intensive applications such as digital video on demand (DVOD) and cable modem service. Advanced design allows a single card to cover a frequency band from 88 to 857 MHz and still maintain a phase noise which exceeds the requirements of 64/256QAM.
The RM5000 is designed as a low noise down converter for the signals in the 26.5 to 32 GHz band. Input taken from an antenna is downconverted to 1000 to 1300 MHz using an external 100 MHz reference.
The TM5000 is a solid-state transmitter/upconverter for LMDS applications. IF input from 1.85 to 2.85 GHz is upconverted into custom 1 GHz bands from 26 to 29 GHz. The upconverted signal is then amplified using MMIC technology for up to 4W solid state output power.
The MA404 is a fully agile commercial quality IF upconverter for data over cable and cable modem applications. Advanced design allows a single MA4040 card to cover a frequency band from 53 to 857 MHz and still maintain a phase noise specification which exceeds the requirements of 256 QAM. The MA4040 is a modular circuit card designed for use with the WaveCom MA4000 series.
The MA4050 is a versatile commercial quality IF modulator for cable, MMDS, and LMDS applications. Utilizing the latest all- digital modulation techniques, the MA4050 card can be configured to produce QPSK, 16, 32, 64, 128, or 256 QAM. The MA4050 card is designed for use with the MA4000 series.
