The Collge de l'Acadie is a community college in Nova Scotia
continually striving to contribute to the economic development
of the Province by providing the Acadian and French-speaking
community with an opportunity to complete their community
college studies in French. The Collge offers general,
professional and technical training programs which meet the
high standards required in the workplace. The distribution of
Nova Scotia's Francophone population throughout the province
has prompted the Collge de l'Acadie to remain flexible in its
programming, while up-holding rigorous educational training
standards. The Collge de l'Acadie uses interactive distance
education technologies to reach the French-speaking population
wanting to pursue full time training programs, week-end courses
and evening courses.
The Academic Upgrading program is designed for adults wishing
to complete their secondary studies or simply upgrade their
education. Due to the diversity of our professional and
technical programs, students have access to post-secondary
training with specialisation in the areas of: Administration/
Business, Office Administration, Early Childhood, Computers,
Tourism, Health and Human Services, Office Work, etc.
Our graduates are very successful; most finding employment
quickly in their field of study.
The Collge de l'Acadie has gained an excellent reputation due
to its ability to fulfil the needs of business community.
Also, the quality of our programming and teaching has caught
the attention of the business community. Businesses, whose
employees may have followed an individual program or a
customised training program can rely on the quality of the
Collge's training.
Collge de l'Acadie, Learning Without Limits
The Collge de l'Acadie opened its doors in September 1992 with
Learning Centres situated in the following Acadian and
Francophone regions of the province - Tusket, Meteghan River,
Pomquet, Dartmouth, Petit de Grat and St-Joseph-du-Moine.
The Learning Centre in Wellington, Prince Edward Island,
opened in 1994-1995. It represents a first for the province's
Acadian community in terms of training and development
in French, as well as initiating interprovincial co-operation
and partnerships in the area of postsecondary distance training.
All the Collge de l'Acadie learning centres are equipped with
distance education systems, including audiographic and
video-conferencing systems.
Mission
College de l'Acadie 'is post-secondary institution and is
responsible for enhancing the economic and social well-being
of the Province by meeting the occupational training
requirements of the Acadian and francophone population and
the labour market of the Province'
Programming
In order to fulfil its mission, the collge de l'Acadie has
developed training programs adapted to the needs of the
population. This year , the Collge offered three different
types of courses and programs: regular full-time, evening and
week-end, and customized training.

Currently, the Collge is developing programs to respond to the
emerging needs of the labour market such as Teleworking,
Multimedia, Computer Network Supervisor, Entrepreneurship,
Ecotourism...Upon completion of their one to two-year programs,
graduates have been very successful in finding employment
related to ther chosen field of study.

Here again, the Collge de l'Acadie's priorities are to meet
the needs of its clientele. The fllexibility of evening and
weekend courses allow each Learning Centre to offer a wide range
of courses that meet the needs of local Acadians and
Francophones.
In recent years, computers and telecommunications have taken on
more and more importance in our daily lives, prompting the
Collge's introduction of Internet and Computerised Accounting
courses. The Collge has been keeping abreast of the latest
developments in thee areas and has strengthened its position
as a provider of language training with French courses as a
second language and for native speakers.
Customized Training Programs
Customized Training Programs
As the name suggest, customized training constitutes a further
step in the Collge's efforts to adapt its programming to the
needs of the regions by responding directly to training requests
from the private and public sectors.
Customized programs fall into two categories; projects that
involve actual training (the majority), and projects that
consist of updating or creating customized programs. The total
invested in customized training programs was $580,890 in 1995-96.
