Our business is manufacturing and distributing top quality vacuum packers, cheese slicers, seal machines and meat grinders. It is upon years of experience and contacts gained that Unika has built its reputation for top quality machinery. Today our product line reflects what the customer and their employees are looking for. After extensive research and close co-operation between people using the machines and our engineers we have put together the machines that take in condsideration the highest level of economics combined with ergonomics. Our main focus went to ease of cleaning, and with that the elimination of possibilites of food built up in hard to reach places. From that the removable seal bar in our vacuum packers was introduced. Another focus was ease of maintenance and the elimination of chronic technical problems. For conventional meat grinders the biggest problem was the accumulation of wash water and meat juices in the transmission systems. Unika has introduced a sealed unit steel geared transmission which sits inline with the motor. This allows us to build a low working height machine even for our largest model. Also we have placed the transmission several inches away from the front of the machine to ensure the water, etc. can not reach it. Another chronic problem was the solenoid switches seizing up in conventional vacuum packers. Unika has introduced a packer utilizing micro switches instead of solenoid switches. With that, elimination of costly bills when one of the solenoid switches would seize.
These are only a few examples of our dedication to build a top quality product with the end user in mind. Today, our manufacturing facility is located in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. In 2001, Unika Inc. relocated to this facility to meet the ever growing demand for top quality products at a reasonable price. We have also put in place regional representatives to ensure swift and satisfactory service.

As an automotive parts manufacturer, one of the most common quality concerns is the delivery of the rusted parts to the Customer. In order to prevent the occurrence of rust, manufacturers employ several prevention techniques, including the application of liquid rust inhibitors, and the use of various vapor corrosion inhibiting (VCI) products. While these methods are effective, from a purchase and/or disposal perspective, they can also be very costly. Additionally, where water-soluble rust inhibitors are used, there are corrosion risks associated with the application of rust inhibitors that are either too low or too high in concentration. Proper process controls must be maintained.
Specific to the pump adaptor program, several factors contributed to our decision to select Unikas vacuum seal approach to packaging:
- The provision of a piece part with no
surface coatings (i. e. rust inhibitors) that might cause stacked pieces to stick together.
- The requirement for a pre-oriented parts
stack, easily and quickly unpackaged.
- The need for an extended rust prevention
shelf life due to the lead time required to deliver to a European market.
- The approval of Ford Motor Company
through production trials.
- The support provided by Unika Inc. during
these trials.
While our Unika vacuum seal machine has only been on our production line since late August 2001, the system appears to satisfy our needs, and the needs of the Ford Motor Company. I am confident that we will employ this technology on other programs.

The cost savings are substantial. What the VT-50 has allowed us to do is process the above items once per week, rather than daily or every second day.
Labor costs for food preparation has been reduced by 2.5%.
Food quality is higher because the product is being stored in an oxegen free environment, without bacteria growth.
Food safety has increased with reduced risk of cross contamination, because of the sealed environment.
By processing once per week, we are able to do more accurate yield testing, therefore reduce our cost of goods substantially.
The VT-50 is basically maintenance free and very reliable. It is easy to clean and does not require a lot of storage space.
We are 100% satisfied with the VT-50.
Service has been excellent and we would highly recommend this unit to anyone who is preparing thier own food.
