UBS designs, develops and manufactures high-speed mobile and fixed wireless solutions, including systems based on COFDM, a robust and efficient RF modulation technology that provides superior coverage in non- line of sight situations, and is resistant to multipath interference even in a mobile environment. Our solutions target the high growth markets for wireless Internet, wireless cable TV, digital radio, and other applications for wireless video, voice and data services. UBS also manufactures high-quality, reliable, passive components including custom filters, waveguide assemblies, couplers and filter combiner assemblies. Our main design and manufacturing locations are in Concord, Ontario and in Copenhagen, Denmark. The UBS head office, the main manufacturing plant, and the principal research and development centre, are all located at our Concord facility, just north of Toronto, Canada. Our Denmark operation specializes in development and enhancement of the technology behind COFDM- based Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-T) and has more than 25 years of experience in the design and manufacture of transmission equipment.   Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) systems offer cost-effective alternatives to wired networks for both local loop and backbone applications and can be configured for private networks or commercial services. UBS leverages the best of both wired and wireless technologies to deliver converged voice, video, fax, broadcast, data and broadband Internet services. Using digital compression, BWA services can offer hundreds of television channels, premium services such as pay-per-view and near video- on-demand, and two-way data service. Multiservice edge devices, such as routers, connected to wireless modems offer support for high quality Internet service, voice telephony for both primary and secondary lines, and G3 fax transmission. And, by using UBS' state-of-the-art technologies, such as our COFDM solutions, the next generation of BWA products will deliver enhanced coverage and quality. These all-IP networks are scalable and give service providers the flexibility they need to offer link speeds comparable to ISDN BRI, Frame Relay PVCs, T1 ' E1 links, DSL, and high-speed coaxial cable (56Kbps and above). Quality of service (QOS) and service Level Agreements (SLAs) can be enforced for end-to-end solutions that simultaneously serve residential, telecommuter, small office, multi-tenant dwelling units (MDU), medium and large sized corporate sites from the same infrastructure. And, these systems interconnect with Legacy backbones and existing operations, administration, and maintenance systems. Unique Broadband Systems can deliver complete end-to end profitable Broadband Wireless Access for converged CATV, voice, data, fax and Internet solutions.   DAB(Digital Audio Broadcast) Digital systems are the future direction for all forms of broadcasting. A complete COFDM DAB system from Unique Broadband Systems will allow for the broadcast of CD quality, interference free radio, as well as the transmission of a visual component referred to as program-associated data (PAD). The PAD can include data such as song lyrics or artist information delivered in conjunction with music being played. The DAB system can also transmit data which can be used in applications where data transmission is required to or from a vehicle moving at high speeds. This data management capability opens the way for interactive services over the DAB system in the future.

  SDARS (Satellite Digital Audio Radio Services) An SDARS system can provide CD quality audio programming to a broad coverage area. A terrestrial repeater network, such as the UBS designed COFDM system, is a necessary component in an SDARS system. Due to the limitations of satellite transmission, the signal is not able to penetrate buildings, so it cannot effectively cover dense urban areas. The UBS terrestrial repeater network extends SDARS coverage and allows providers to reach the greatest number of subscribers and provide quality radio coverage.
