Services

  • Hybrid Tomato Seed Production

HYBRID TOMATO SEED PRODUCTION Production of hybrid tomato seed can be arranged based on parent lines developed by other breeders, or hybrids can be custom developed for either fresh market or processing based on a large selection of elite breeding lines from our research and development program. Specific contracts for seed quantity, delivery, quality, etc. can be developed depending on the customer and their requirements. Contracts for other species such as pepper are also possible.

Products

  • Super Shepherd Pepper Seed

Super Shepherd is an Italian Ramshorn type. It is a large fruited, elongated sweet pepper with thick walls and a superior sweet taste. Seed is surface sterilized to reduce the potential for seed borne bacterial diseases. In addition, the peppers used for seed are selected to maintain the genetic characteristics of the Super Shepherd type.

  • Tomato Hybrid Tsh04

TSH04 (98 days or 2325 heat units)is an early jointless processing hybrid with excellent yield for its maturity classification. Fruit size is very uniform, peeled colour is good and fruit peel cleanly. For product use, TSH04 has medium viscosity and good soluble solids. Vine size is moderate. Field holdability is excellent. In the drought conditions of 2001 and 2002, resistance to blossom end rot was excellent. Overall, the combination of good fruit size and firmness coupled with good peeled colour increases peeled recovery, resulting in excellent processor acceptance for the early part of the processing season. It is also being used successfully in organic tomato procuction. Many fresh market growers also use this hybrid as an early hand pick Roma style variety, to get into the fresh market earlier. TSH04 is resistant to Verticillium and Fusarium, and is tolerant to bacterial speck.

  • Tomato Hybrid Tsh07

TSH07 (106 days or 2550 heat units) is a main season hybrid maturing about 5 days later than TSH16. Due to its high level of resistance to blotchy ripening, peeled colour and recovery are excellent. Fruit size is similar or slightly smaller than TSH16, but this hybrid has the combination of yield, firmness, and peeled recovery for outstanding overall performance. Under the extremely dry conditions of 2001 and 2002, resistance to blossom end rot was excellent. It has resistance to Verticillium and Fusarium wilt, as well as tolerance to bacterial speck.

  • Tomato Hybrid Tsh08

TSH08 (111 days or 2650 heat units is a later maturing main season hybrid, about 5 days later than TSH07, but it has extremely good firmness and field holdability. It has the highest level of firmness of any of our hybrids. These characteristics lead to low peeling and processing losses. It has excellent viscosity, and is highly suited for crushed or sauce production. Due to its firmness, it is excellent for dicing, and should hold up well in steam peeling systems. If planted later, it will hold very well if harvest has to be delayed for weather or other reasons. Resistance to blossom end rot is excellent. It has resistance to Verticillium and Fusarium wilt, as well as tolerance to bacterial speck.

  • Tomato Hybrid Tsh10

TSH10 (105 days or 2500 heat units) is a fresh market roma style hybrid. It is early to mid-season with excellent fruit size for hand-pick Roma fresh market operations. It is not jointless but stems come off very easily. It is similar in appearance to VF6203 in terms of vine size, and fruit shape, but is much more resistant to blossom end rot. Maturity is as early or earlier than VF6203 but yield is superior, and it is very firm fruited. Field holdability is very good.

  • Tomato Hybrid Tsh16

TSH16 (101 days or 2400 heat units) is an early maturing processing hybrid, only about 3 days later in maturity than TSH04. Yield is better than TSH04, with improved firmness. Fruit size is slightly smaller but it is more resistant to blotchy ripening and has better peeled colour. Setting ability is excellent. This hybrid has been used successfully in organic tomato production. It has resistance to Verticillium and Fusarium wilt, as well as tolerance to bacterial speck.

  • Tomato Hybrid Tsh18
  • Tomato Hybrid Tsh20

TSH20 (113 days or 2700 heat units) has the crimson gene for high internal colour. It is about 2 days later than TSH08, and is almost as firm. Yield is as good or better. The fruit are more pear shaped than TSH08, and have the most elongated style of any of our hybrids, with a height to width ratio of about 1.5 (compared to 1.3 for TSH08). Fruit are larger, and peelability and recovery are excellent. Due to having the crimson gene, colour of crushed and sauce type products should be excellent. It has resistance to Verticillium and Fusarium wilt, as well as tolerance to bacterial speck.

  • Tomato Variety Vf6203

VF6203 (105 days or 2500 heat units) is a fresh market Roma style variety that is very popular for making home-made sauces. It has good firmness and viscosity.
