M.S. Thompson & Associates Ltd.
The engineering expertise of M.S. Thompson & Associates Ltd. is extensive and unique. With offices in Cornwall and Kingston, Ontario, and
approximately fifty professional, technical and support staff, we provide client services in a full range of engineering services for several
sectors: municipal/transportation, environmental, industrial and building engineering. Since our firm provides services for all aspects of the
civil, transportation, structural, mechanical, electrical, municipal and environmental engineering disciplines, we are able to offer an in-house
and transdisciplinary approach to projects and problem solving along with comprehensive project management.
One of the primary benefits that the M.S. Thompson & Associates team brings to engineering projects is our full complement of disciplines
under one roof. On-staff professionals and technologists often provide a full range of services, typically seeing projects through from
planning, to design, to approval, to construction, to completion and ongoing through the life and operation of the facilities.
Municipal /Environmental Services
One of our core strengths is the provision of municipal infrastructure. Communities that have experienced problems with their municipal water,
wastewater, waste disposal and transportation infrastructure but increasingly do not have the means to implement capital-intensive solutions
have been well served by M.S. Thompson & Associates. Our extensive involvement in the class environmental assessment process is just
one activity that fosters innovation in our examination and selection of alternative solutions.
We gauge success by solving the technical problem at hand at minimal life cycle cost. Our many municipal clients appreciate this philosophy
and reward its application with repeat business and referrals.
It is no surprise that environmental consulting at M.S. Thompson & Associates has been a major source of business growth. Environmental
site assessments, baseline studies, decommissioning and remediation projects, hazardous materials handling and storage facilities, and air
quality investigations form the core of M.S. Thompson & Associates' environmental work. Naturally enough, it often blends into the
municipal realm; waste disposal, wastewater and storm water treatment projects undertaken by the municipal staff are often assisted by
environmental personnel.
The firm enjoys close contacts with the environmental research community, environmental agencies, and the industrial sector. This exposure
helps us to better understand the underlying environmental issues of our projects and provides us the insight required to develop balanced
project methodologies - the cornerstone of an effective environmental project.

Consulting Service For Water Resource Management.
The Thompson Rosemount Group specializes in the turn-key design of water treatment plants from the original environmental impact assessment to the final design and commissioning. One such example of our international water treatment plant design is that in to Huiyang City, China.
Canada Power & Equipment Corporation, a Canadian developer, retained Thompson Rosemount Group to provide engineering support for a large water treatment plant to be located in Guongdong Province, in the People's Republic of China. The proposed plant has a treatment capacity of 400,000 m3/d. The process consists of coarse screening, flash mixing, flocculation, settling, sand gravity filtration and pre- and post-chlorination. A 20 km-long, 1.6 metre-diameter pipeline conveys water from the intake station to the plant and another 7 km pipeline supplies treated water to Huiyang City's distribution header.
A review of the preliminary design drawings, prepared by the Chinese Southwest Institute of Engineers, was initially performed. A delegation then carried out site reconnaissance as well as negotiations with Huiyang City, county and provincial approval officials.
The project originally specified both Chinese and Finnish-supplied equipment. With the introduction of a Canadian lead developer and the possibility of Export Development Corporation-mandated Canadian content requirements, Thompson Rosemount Group assisted the technology transfer process of pre-selecting suitable Canadian-made equipment, much of it to be supplied by Dgrmont Infilco. The development team recognized the challenges associated with supplying an eventual contractor with material and equipment to the job site. Accordingly the development of supply lines, a concrete batch plant and a fibreglass pipe plant were included in the overall development plan.
A detailed cost estimate encompassing over eleven hundred items, a master project schedule and advise pertaining to development team composition and philosophy were also supplied for the client.
