Success Stories:

Deconstruction - Use of 3R's Principals

Cannington performed 3Rs Deconstruction and Demolition of 149 PMQs at CFB Borden. Approximately 91% of all building materials were successfully diverted from landfilling through deconstruction procedures that promoted reduction, reuse and recycling. This project involved removal of asbestos tiles and other asbestos containing materials prior to deconstruction activities according to the Waste Management Plan. Handling and disposal of asbestos was documented appropriately.

Many materials were saved for reuse and recycling through the implementation of a Source Separation Program that promoted separation of unlike materials at the source. This program allowed efficient segregation of reusable and recyclable materials from other waste materials which had less reusable/recyclable potential. Those materials salvaged for reuse and recycling included paving stones and masonry, numerous ferrous and non-ferrous metal materials, wood framing and roof materials, doors, windows and finishing materials, bathroom and mechanical fixtures, as well as electrical devices and fixtures.
