Tekran Instruments Corp.
Tekran Inc. is a privately owned Canadian company founded in 1989 and located in Toronto, Ontario. Tekran is a manufacturer of a variety of ultra-trace environmental instrumentation, with particular emphasis on the measurement of mercury. The company is committed to the production of leading edge measurement equipment.
Tekran manufactures the world's first continuous mercury vapour ambient air analyzer. This instrument is extremely sensitive, with a detection limit of less than 0.1 ng/m3 (12 parts per quadrillion). An internal calibration source allows unattended operation for extended periods.
Typical applications include: continuous monitoring of remote background levels; monitoring of land fills and waste incinerators; localization of industrial sources through mobile surveying; monitoring of levels in urban locations; and prediction of periods of increased geological activity through detection of increased ground emissions. The Atmospheric Environment Service, Environment Canada, has standardized on the Model 2537A as its preferred method for the measurement of ambient mercury levels in air.
Other products include a mercury detector with the ability to measure sub-picogram quantities of elemental mercury. This device is intended for operation with laboratory analytical systems that process water, soil, vegetation, and other types of samples. A permeation injection source produces precisely known amounts of an analyte for calibration and QA/QC purposes. An automatic cartridge sampler allows the precise exposure of a series of adsorbent cartridges.
Tekran is involved in an ongoing development program to improve existing products and to respond to the needs of its customers for new and innovative measurement methods.
The company markets its products through direct sales and via a rapidly growing network of representatives in other countries. Units have been sold in the U.S., Germany, UK, Venezuela and Spain. Exclusive representatives have yet to be appointed in many of these countries. Tekran is interested in extending its representation to areas in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and South East Asia.

Chemical Analysis Instruments
Cold Vapour Atomic Fluorescence Spectrophotometry (cvafs) Detector.
With an absolute detection limit of <0.01 pg of mercury, the system is available with either an adjustable ball flow meter or precision mass flow meter. The latter option allows remote control and readout of the carrier flow rate.
Automated Aqueous Monitoring System.
Measurement of ultra-trace mercury in aqueous samples (waters, sediments and biota) is time consuming and must be done manually. Traditional automated monitoring techniques (eg: US EPA Method 245) are simply not capable of measuring the low levels required. New EPA standards (12 ppt) cannot be met with existing technology. The Tekran Series 2600 is fully automated and is capable of measuring mercury in the parts per quadrillion range.
Tekran Mercury Vapour Analyzer.
Provides continuous ambient monitoring of total gaseous mercury (tgm) with an update rate of 5 minutes. Designed to integrate easily into existing monitoring networks and data acquisition systems. Excellent for use in power plants, landfills, incinerators, plume profiling, and industrial installation.
